Patriots also announce signing of WR Tiquan Underwood and S Ross Ventrone.

Anyone can give me a short summary of these guys? Never heard of them.

Sanders for Ventrone? Huh?

Tiquan Underwood is a pencil-thin JAG.

Ross Ventrone is Ray Ventrone's younger brother.

I saw Ray Ventrone at Safety with the 1's early in the Browns' second pre-season game against Detroit I believe.

Why? I don't see either player making the 53. Am I wrong?

Because they need some scrubs to play this week and they might as well get a look at some scrubs they haven't seen yet.

Like his older brother Bubba, Ross Ventrone started his NFL career as a Patriots UDFA (last year).

More information on Patriots signee WR Tiquan Underwood - Extra Points - Boston.com

He is a 6-1 and 183-pound receiver who played at Rutgers and then played two seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Here is more information courtesy of the Patriots:

He was released by Jacksonville on August 25, 2011. Underwood originally entered the NFL as a seventh round draft choice (253rd overall) by Jacksonville in the 2009 NFL Draft out of Rutgers. After beginning his rookie season on the practice squad, he joined the 53-man roster and appeared in three games, mainly on special teams. Last season, he played in 10 games and caught eight passes for 111 yards and returned 24 kicks for 561 yards, including a career-long of 53 yards in the season-opener vs. Denver (9/12).

Ventrone is a well-known name to Pats fans.

Underwood is 6-1, 178, but fast. Quickest three-cone in his 2009 draft class. Had under 500 yards receiving his last year at Rutgers.

There basically Patriots royalty. First there's the Kraft family, then BB, then the Ventrone brothers, and then everyone else.

No idea on Underwood. Someone mentioned a possible KR, though I think we need to focus on getting Edelman some more reps there as he's my favorite for that job.

As for Ventrone, if we want to play scrubs on Thursday to avoid injuries and refine the last few spots, we can't have Chung/Meriweather playing 80% of the snaps. And right now, we have almost no other safeties.
