Welker Suffers Neck Injury Saturday Night

Manning can't play, and I'm pretty sure he can fly.
????? Manning didn't injure his neck in a game. He had elective surgery that was done after batteries of tests. The surgery was done in a hospital and monitoried, and I disagree that he flew within an hour or two of his surgery. I'm pretty sure that would not have been done.

Welker, on the other hand, got hurt during a game. If there was any chance of his injury being severe, he would be in a hospital having it checked out, not walking to the team bus to head for the airport.

I'm no doctor, but if it was bad enough, logic dictates he wouldn't be able to fly back to Boston and would need to stay at a hospital.

I feel the same way about traveling back with the team vs. getting checked out in Detroit.
And what else do Patriots players say to the media? Other than "I'm okay"

What exactly does that have to do with our O line performance? Last time the O line has molested like this, I didn't see Moss light the World against the Giants and Ravens in the playoffs.

What is title of this thread?
I'm referring to Welker's injury if it's fatal & not sold on Tate's play.
As for Moss I didn't say it would be good or bad to have him back but that if Pats wanted to add another receiver Moss comes to mind with back n forth Pats.

Lol It has nothing to do with the O.line because it wasn't meant to have anything to with the O.line. I'm really confused by your comment....

do you think it is bad?

I saw his head get jammed on some dudes torso/back

did he get off ok?

He walked off slowly. It wasn't even obvious enough to draw a comment from the announcers, but it was definitely slow.

Reports look good:) No way would he be on plane ride home... dude would be in a hospital

I am no Dr, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

In the long term, Welkers body has been breaking down over the past few years, I am afraid that Welker will not get big money to stay here. For this year, one more vintage year please.
Thanks, Doc...

Aside from being a Jets fan, I'm a cop and an EMT...seen my share of neck injuries. Especially in car accidents. Thing about it is, there really is no way of doing an immediate observation and diagnosis. The spinal chord, particularly in the first (c1 thru c5) cervical vertebrae, is a tangle of nerves, discs, bones, meninges and spinal fluid. Multiple injuries to the neck lead to bulging discs and pinched/damaged nerves, and a wearing of the nerves outer sheath which can be outrageously painful. Welker has been a helluva player. But if I were him, I start thinking about a job outside of football. Chrebet had to do it, al Toon, Troy Aikman...it's just not worth risking one's life, or quality of life, after a while. He's been concussed too many times as it is. I wish him a full and speedy recovery, but it seems like he's becoming one of those oft-injured players that are all guts and heart, but are deteriorating before our eyes.

Oft injured? Hes missed 4 games in the last 7 years, not sure what you guys mean by this.

Geez, don't step over his drop in production last year, and his drops. You think he was 100% in 2010 compared to 2007-2009?

Also in the playoffs since the Giants SB, he's only appeared in one game - last years Jets game (in which he was pretty good: 7 for 57)

Y/G

2007: 73.4
2008: 72.8
2009: 96.3
2010: 56.5

He's 30.5 years old with 108 games played - at 5' 9" 190 lbs; he's got less time in front of him then behind him. BB is very careful about doling money/years out to older players. BB will be happy to get 75+ catches a year out of Welker until 2020 if its in him, but Welker is never going to score some 3+ year deal front loaded with lots of bonus money here.

Thanks doc.

I have a protruding disk in my neck that flares up from time to time.

I don't know why they did all those tests and MRIs, when they could have just read your post and realized there's "no way of doing an immediate observation and diagnosis."

Aside from being a Pats fan, I'm a Barista at a Starbucks attached to a Barnes & Nobles....read my share of books where people get their necks injuried (or even decapitated) and I think Welker will be fine.

Naturally, we all wish Welker well and love him, and of course, we hope it is nothing serious, but...

But, outside of Karen Guregian talking to him as he got on the team bus, does anyone have any ACTUAL INFORMATION about the seriousness this injury?

No
We're waiting for Belichick's detailed press conference when in his typical fashion he gives us his take on player injuries

Yeah, thanks for the sympathy. If he were cut, you'd be one of the first ones salivating over the prospect of the Jets signing him. Go away. No one wants you here.

As everyone should know by now, this is about as much information as will be made public:

Wes Welker Tells Patriots Teammates That He's 'Fine' After Suffering Neck Injury - NESN.com

After suffering a neck injury during Saturday’s loss to the Lions, Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker was telling his teammates Monday that he's "fine."

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick did not offer an update on Welker's status during Monday's conference call, but Welker's teammates said they spoke with him at the facility Monday when he passed along his positive self-prognosis.

There you go, as definitive an answer to an injury question as we are going to ever get. ...

People spent all week last week assuming Woodhead might be dead, and he played in full action in Detroit. Until I see an actual medical diagnosis, I'm dismissing all of this. If Welker had an actual neck injury it would have been diagnosed by now and reported to the media. Even the great Patriots media curtain can't hide a legitimate neck injury. Also, you typically don't announce that you feel "fine" if you suffered one.

Now, now. Play fair. The guy wrote a thoughtful post here because he can't do the same at Jets Insider Dot Com. I tend to agree if this is serious. Welker should put his long-term health first on the list and if the doctors say he can play, he should play. Think about the Bruschi situation and how we all held our breath when he came back after the stroke.

Transcript of press conference hot off the wires.

Reporter: Can you give us an update on Wes Welker's condition?
BB: Sure. Yes, I can.
Reporter: OK, what is his condition?
BB: You mean, Welker's condition?
Reporter: Yeah.
BB: Oh, he's fine. Day to day.
Reporter: The reports are that the hit he took to the neck was pretty serious.
BB: Well, I haven't seen the game film yet. We'll know more when we do.
Reporter: Will he be able to practice with the team?
BB: That's up to the training staff.
Reporter: But, we're not allowed to talk to the trainers.
BB: I'll have to get back to you on that.
Reporter: What would Welker's absence mean to the team?
BB: Everybody will still be out there every day, working hard, practicing, trying to get better.
Reporter: Does that mean, his absence won't affect how you plan for Miami?
BB: I just coach the players I have to coach. That's all I can do.
Reporter: When will you have more information for us on Welker?
BB: Well, you can always check the injury report.
Reporter: But that won't come out until the week before opening day.
BB: Yeah, I guess so. We just do what the league tells us.
Reporter: [runs screaming from room]
