So me and one of my fellow co-workers (who happens to be a Jets fan) got into a huge debate during my lunch hour. He thinks Sanchez is much better than Brian Hoyer could ever be. I know all Jets fans are so into Sanchez and sees him as the franchise QB but c'mon. I dont hate Sanchez by all means, I think he's a decent QB at best. Accuracy and consistency is his biggest flaws in my eyes.

We both argued the facts. I know we don't have much to go off of since Hoyer doesn't start but from what I've seen, I think Hoyer could be light years ahead of Mark Sanchez honestly. He always looks poised in the pocket and really has a good accuracy. I feel if Hoyer was a starter for another team, he'd have better stats than Sanchez any season.

Some input on this... insights?

There is no way of answering this question until we trade Hoyer to another team and he gets to show what he can do.

Re: Unbiased Question...

... tough question ...

i'd rank the afce qb's including him & brady as

brady > sanchez > fitzpatrck > henne > hoyer

... it's just potential until it happens during real time ...

We'd have to see Hoyer play at least 8 regular season games (it's just different when games count) before we could even come to any sort of conclusion. Sanchez is starting and Hoyer isn't. I'd say Sanchez is better right now and I'd prefer not to see my 8 games with Hoyer (unless he was on another team) ;)

Re: Unbiased Question...

My top 3 competencies for a QB are accuracy, decision making, and poise. Hoyer has shown all of these, Sanchez has shown some poise on certain occasions but that's it.

I agree that Hoyer needs to start in order to make a legitimate comparison but if my job was on the line I'd take Hoyer any day of the week over the Sanchise.

Maybe a better question is Matt Cassel vs Sanchez?

After that you can compare Cassel and Hoyer and use the transitive property, hahaha!

Right and I understood that I couldnt make a real solid argument which I admitted but just from the snippets I saw he seemed much more accurate in the pocket than I've ever seen Sanchez.

But only time will tell I guess..

Re: Unbiased Question...

You'd have to get Hoyer out of New England and some time as the starter in order to answer the question.

I laughed hard after opening this thread.

It'll be worth checking in at JI and GangGreen once they get wind of this!

The answer is Sanchez because potential is unknowable.

Can't wait for SG3's thoughtful comments about this.

If potential is unknowable, how can the answer be Sanchez?

This pretty much. Hoyer hasn't had to play against anyone when it mattered and rarely if ever against a 1st string defense.

I think Hoyer can be a better QB, and I certainly think he is more accurate than Sanchez, but he hasn't had to lead a team back from a 4th quarter deficit or win on the road, etc. We simply don't know what he can do under high pressure situations.

Could he be better? Sure. Is he? We don't know. Could he be worse? Absolutely. Is he? We don't
know.

Who would I prefer? That is tough, I think I would risk it and take Hoyer, unless Sanchez has a breakout third season and does enough to show he is in the upper echelon then I think Hoyer's potential that he has flashed in limited opportunities is worth taking an extended look at.

Re: Unbiased Question...

What criteria are you people who are voting for Hoyer using?

Love him or hate him, Sanchez has done well enough to get their team to the AFCCG 2 years in a row. You can't handwave that away with the Trent Dilfer defense.

Sanchez is streaky, but when he is on with his short and intermediate passes he's been good enough to help his team win playoff games.

Hoyer has looked good during the preaseason, they are a world apart.

As the Mayor of Homerville, I would like to refer you to the local chapter of KA (Koolaid Anonymous).

I like Hoyer, but that statement seems indicate a Koolaid OD could be coming.

Its been awhile since I openly contradicted myself within such a small post ;)

I suppose I read the question to be 'Who is the better QB?'.

I should laugh less, read more :D

Re: Unbiased Question...

I think if given the opportunity, Hoyer would prove to be the better QB. However, since he has yet to see any serious time in games that count (and i'm hoping he doesn't until he's out of New England) you have to go with Sanchez. While Sanchez has been decidedly below average, Hoyer has not shown anything except some good play in garbage time.

So for now, Sanchez but ask me this question again in 3 years time and i'd be willing to bet most people's answer would be Hoyer.

when hoyer will in a playoff game, let me know.

True, he has played well but don't forget his top ranked defense. If Sanchez wasnt backed by the cast of players on that D, the pressure on him would triple fold.

Sanchez has been a bottom of the barrel QB as a rookie, and a bottom 10 QB as a second year QB. Hoyer wouldn't exactly have to set the world on fire to do better.

Re: Unbiased Question...

lol @ people picking hoyer. I thought everybody was supposed to be unbiased in this thread?
