Hi. This is my first post. Sorry if this was posted elsewhere, but I didn't see it.

If we loose our next two games and the Jets win their next two, will we still win the division?

I think the pats and jets are tied (w-l) against common opponents, and the next criterion is strenght of victory.

I think we win this too since we beat:
Chicago
Buffalo
Cinci

The Jets beat:
Miami
Oakland
Tennessee
(all other opponent were common and don't matter in SOV)

Thanks.

I believe we did. On WEEI after today's game they went through all the tie-breakers if both the Pats and Jets end at 10-6, and we come out on top.

No, If Pats and Jets finish 10-6 the Jets win the division based on conf Record Jets 7-5 and Pats 6-6.

Which is why next week is the biggest game of the season... We lose and the Jets beat miami, we could lose to a hot Tenn team, while the Raiders play the jets.. Take care of buisness next week or there will be no more playoff senerios...

how do stand in the wild card scenarios (gulp) ..just in case s***t happens...

We haven't clinched a wild card either. In worse-case scenario we go 10-6. Denver can go 10-6. They beat us. Jax could go 10-6 if they beat us next week. Was hoping the walking wounded would get a couple of weeks off. Doesn't look that way. Jax has defeated; Indy,Pitt,Dallas at home. We will have our hands full next Sunday. I feel confident about defeating Tennessee if we have to. I also think Miami will beat the Jets next week. Making Wk 17
an exhibition game. Hello, Matt Cassell.

I luv Smerlas as entertainment but as a source of facts he's a doofus. As Steve DeOssie said on EEI tonight, "Fred, you're the Boston Globe of the radio, and it's not a complement. You make big official pronouncements that are baseless in fact."

Don't tell Smerlas I said he's a doofus. He's lots bigger than I.

My bet is that we go for it all next week and take it easy against Ten. We are almost locked into the 4th seed so the last game may no have any value.

then denver and jax both hold tie breaker on us ? Does this mean we root for the colts tommorow and denver next week ?

Dunno, but hope it's so. Like to see the last game as a pseudo bye week with the backups playing. Sorta like today's last QTR.

Magic number is 1.

There are scenarios where 10-6 wouldn't get us in the playoffs, but they are a bit esoteric.

I think the only tie-breaker we might win is a head-to-head with
Cincy. But, 3 OR more team tiebreakers go to conf. record. If we
lose out. That's 6-6. Would put us in a bad spot. We can win the
div. with 10 wins. If Jets lose next week. Not sure who the hell to
root for in that Cincy/Den game. Cincy I guess. Hell, let's beat the
Jags. Clinch our division. And, knock them out. Would simplify things.

The way to get it done is to win.
Who here wants us to go to the playoffs if we lose 2 and the Jets crash by losing 1 of 2? If we back into the playoffs doggie style, I'll have no faith in the team's sustaining ability. I think we're better than that so I want the Jets to win, get a worse draft pick and the Pats to get the AFCE crown the old fashioned way. EARN it.

Apparently he got it wrong and consequently so did I, I was just going by what he said. The thought that we could finish out of the playoffs at 10-6 is a mind-boggler

We could but we'd likely be a wild card if so.

Bottom line win next week against the Jags.. Its a playoff game folks, any way you slice it.. I dont want to back in , I want this team to earn it.. Beat Jax , and lets just see if Tenn is a game we need for seeding.. The only way we are talking wild card is , lose 2 and become a math professor on the basic formulia of the square root vs pie , and that will get us into the playoffs... Just win one more game , which is next week.. Nuff said..

not clinched yet.
right now, we could be tied w/nyj, 1st tiebreaker is H-H (tie), next is division (could be tie), next is common opponents (could be a tie).. then it comes to strength of victory (not schedule).

conf record comes before common opponents which the jets will win
