In my honest opinion, when guys get pressed into the lineup because of injuries and you see improvement on the field -- that really helps in the long-term the depth and player development of the team for the future.

Yes I remember the incident during the Denver game when Sanders took a bad angle -- but as of yet I haven't seen him repeat the same mistake over and over and over -- which is a good.

How has Sanders looked since he's been forced into the lineup? I haven't noticed him too much, which I suppose is a good sign, but a little playmaking would help make me feel better about our future in the secondary. He and Hobbs have disappointed so far this year, haven't they?

By the way, it sure would have been nice if the jets hadn't drafted Kerry Rhodes ahead of us. What a difference that would've made.

But back to my question - for those of you who have been studying the games, how does Sanders look? Is he making progress? Is there any chance he can someday EARN a starting job?

Sanders is answering the question, Who after Rodney.

Wilson has shown he can be a superior FS, and Sanders is demonstrating that he has more than just size for the SS position. And ther is depth with Hawkins too. With three young CBs in Samuels, Hobbs, and Gay the secondary has a good foundation for the next generation, to go along withthe DL.

I don't know how Hobbs gets classified as a disappointment, and to call Sanders one after reporting you haven't noticed him on the field seems a to be another reach. James has done well as an injury replacement, he is a good open field tacklers, hasn't blown any coverage assignments as far as I can see, and he isn't afraid of working up near the line in run support. He continues to progress and looks to be competitive as a replacement for Rodney down the road.

He is young and alll he wants to do is to improve. Yes Rodney is the man.Rodney is also the teacher. James is going to here for the future. There is also Hawkins as a teacher. There is only good things going to happen....:singing:

I agree about Hobbs. I don't recall any occasions where he was beaten badly for TDs. He seems to understand his zonal responsibilities, is putting in some good hits and seems to be where the action is. Do your breakdowns confirm my thinking?

That's how I see it when I'm watching tape. He does get burned by the touchy-feely no contact garbage rules, but that's because he is usually in the WR's back pocket where the back and side judges get nervous and throw the flags so they don't get on Polian's short list.

I believe playing one handed has been a substantial handicap for Hobbs' game. Still he has held his own in coverage; he just can't make an INT, like he was doing last season. As far as I am concerned he is a "keeper". I like the yound secondary of Samuel, Hobbs, Wilson and Sanders and Hawkins. It is good enough to win with now and will only get better with time and experience.
