I think it could be a possibility. Not full-time of course, but just a few reps here and there in regular sets. With Wilfork hurt, they may go more 4-3 for awhile anyways until he returns. This would give them a chance to rest Vrabel a bit more on defense and possibily spot him for some plays here and there at tight end. They monitor reps like this for Troy Brown.

Not that he'll switch full-time or anything. But they may be able to get a few plays out of him on offense and possibly even throw him a couple passes. He's got the athleticism and hands. This could be a short term solution until Watson and Graham are off the injury list.

It would be too risky for him to get hurt since they don't have great depth on lb.

If anyone should play the receiving TE it should be Marquise Hill.

1: He is useless as a DT/DE

2: He may be desperate

3: There will be only 1 play for him ... a quick block, release, helicopter rainbow throw and catch...:bricks:

vrabel is LOLB....they're switching over to 4-3 more b/c seau is out, and wilfork is hurt...

.instead of having moving vrabel inside again and having TBC LOLB, and having one unproven DT to take the place of wilfork

puts a solid front 7, but vulnerable to the pass even more with less coverage lb's...putting our already depleted dbs out on islands in the secondary...if anything that'll mean more runs to the outsides, where vrabel will be waiting...

i'm not sure about the pat's injury reports...but we already have graham, watson and thomas....along with fullbacks pass and evans to fill in for a TE position....also garret mills i think, idk...lol edit: mills who's on IR i'm sorry

Vrabel is vital to this team's success. If they put him in occasionally, as they are wont to do, then fine - but NO expanded role on offense. That's too risky.

Where's one of those "Stupid Thread" images ?

No.

I would like to congratulate everyone in this thread for not spelling Vrabel as VRABLE. We as a board are now one step closer to winning the Patriots spelling bee.

Dude, relax. I'm not talking about moving him there full time. I'm talking about 5-10 plays on three tight end sets.

I suppose we'd get the same response in 2003 if someone had said, you know, Troy Brown could probably play a few plays at nickle back. Or if someone had said Mike Vrabel will have as many TDs as he has back in 2001. I'm not talking about anything but increasing his workload slightly from what he does now at tight end anyways. And if you don't think Belichick would do that if he thinks its the best option out of some tough cards he has dealt, you're the moron.

Wasn't Vrabel a TE in college? He does have great hands. He almost made that miraculous catch in the end zone couple of weeks back.

I have no problem with Vrabel taking a few extra reps at TE. Whatever is needed to win in the playoffs is fine by me.

Playing Vrabel at TE is like playing Seymour at FB.
A coompletely indispensible guy being put out there just asking to get hurt.

ask yourself, if Vrabel gets hurt, then what do we do?

Stick to two TE sets of course, and what is wrong with Sey at FB - he made a hole or two for Dillon.

He got hurt and missed a bunch of games including playoffs

No he was a DE at Ohio State.

I am pretty sure it is in his contract that he can only catch TDs during the Superbowl... plus if he got hurt I would cry, our LBs would be in terrible shape.

Time for me to get on my soapbox, this has been bugging me. All the talk that Vrabel and Bruschi were just stiffs until they joined the Patriots is garbage. Bruschi was the all time NCAA sack leader**record when he left ASU. (has been beaten since by Terrell Suggs I think) and I believe Vrabel still holds the OSU record* for sacks.

These guys were great college players and luckily for us we have a defensive minded coach who was able to put their play making abilities to work within an excellent scheme. They were rough diamonds that needed to be refined by the master stone cutter.

Ok, thats it back off the soapbox... I am sure there is a Brady-Bridget thread to read (<-- insert puke visual).

*Vrabel set Ohio State career records with 36 quarterback sacks and 66 tackles for losses
**Bruschi played college football at the University of Arizona as a defensive end, where he tied the NCAA Division I-A sack record with 52 quarterback sacks.

Definitely!
Mike Vrabel is the indispensable man on the current D.

Vrabel is an OLB in the 4-3...

We need lot less TE and the situation is a lot less dire. If Watson were out for the year and then Graham went out for 2 games, then you might see it. But right now it's a non starter.

hey moron...did i say we shoudl move him there full time??? i just said that we have good enough depth in the FB and TE position....moving vrabel is 100% stupid....like everyone is saying....'what if he gets hurt'

if vrabel was a 2nd string or 3rd string LB, i'd say, "why not give it a shot"....but right now, there is barely enough depth to have 2nd string OLB's and ILB's......

and with that rational.....i can just as easily say..."i'm a moron, i think tom brady played some SS when he was in high school....thats reason enough for him to take 5-10 snaps at practice at SS"

from what you're saying....i should start up the "BRADY TO SS" thread right now

do us all a favor and dont think about patriots football when you're on the crapper....

oh oh oh and one LAST thing...please dont reply with a "dude chill out" post....i'm not angered by your stupidity, i'm just having fun with this thread....
