It Is What It Is » Sunday Patriots practice report: Still no Albert Haynesworth >> weei.com >> Mike Petraglia

While the group work was taking place on the West practice field, right next door Steve Gostkowski was showing that he still has a strong leg, attempting three from 60 yards. The first one hit the crossbar. The second fell about 15 yards short before back-up Chris Koepplin raised his two arms in approval on the third, prompting a Washington Redskins “Smurf” style celebration from Gostkowski, holder Zoltan Mesko and snapper Matt Katula.

Also, C Chris Morris gets placed on IR, and Danny Woodhead names his baby daughter Gia.

Was looking forward to see how Dowling looked this preseason..get on the field kid.

^^awesome signature pic.

Haynesworth is probably working more in the classroom and cardio room.

He probably isnt mentally and physically ready to step into practice yet. Still @ the Patriot rehabilitation center, learning the playbook.

That and some rumored synvisk injections, just routine maintainence for the knee..

Pepper says he is working hard in the classroom..

Danny Woodhead, Dan Connolly Return to Patriots Practice, While Tom Brady Continues Hot Streak With Offense - NESN.com - Jeff Howe

Running back Danny Woodhead and left guard Dan Connolly returned to the practice field Sunday for the Patriots.

Woodhead missed Saturday's practice due to the birth of his daughter, Gia, and Connolly hadn't practiced since injuring his right elbow last Tuesday.

Tom Brady continued his hot streak with the offense, connecting with Chad Ochocinco for a pair of very impressive touchdown passes, including one that went for about 50 yards.

Left tackle Matt Light, who debuted at practice Saturday, participated in drills for the first time Sunday.

Woodhead, Connolly return - Extra Points - Boston.com - Greg Bedard

LT Matt Light only participated in individual drills. He was in one-on-ones for the first time and won his first two in very impressive fashion. He did lose to Andre Carter, but everyone got beat by him. Carter was awesome today.

LB Jeff Tarpinian and OL Zach Roth missed practice for the first time. A total of 21 Patriots were out.

Notes: Brady and Ochocinco in sync at practice | CSNNE | Danny Picard

Brady hit Ochocinco perfectly in stride with several deep passes, and Ochocinco made nice catches on both, which would have resulted in touchdowns had it been a game.

The first came on a flea flicker, as running back BenJarvus Green-Ellis threw the handoff back to Brady, who then let it fly, deep down the middle of the field. The play threw the defense off-guard, and a wide-open Ochocinco made the catch.

The other big play the two connected on came as Ochocinco beat cornerback Devin McCourty wide down the right sideline, making somewhat of a diving catch in the end zone.

The two plays captured the highlight of the afternoon.

Perhaps the speculation that Ochocinco will be cut because he dropped a pass or two was a bit premature. . .

BostonHerald.com - Blogs: Rap Sheet» Still waiting on Albert . . . but here’s what else happened at Patriots practice

One-on-one drill standouts: While OT Matt Light didn’t take part in any of the full team drills, he did partake in the individual position drills. He completely stuffed DE Eric Moore on one play and generally looked pretty good in the one-on-ones. DE Andre Carter, meanwhile, completely took rookie Nate Solder to school on one rush. Vince Wilfork pancaked Thomas Austin during his session, while Kyle Love and Myron Pryor also dominated in their individual battles.

More Mallet served up: For the second straight day, rookie quarterback Ryan Mallett once again saw more reps. He was under center for more snaps than Brian Hoyer. What to read into it? Probably nothing more than Mallett is going to see more time against Tampa in Thursday’s exhibition game. Mallett’s work on the practice field, however, continues to be uneven, particularly with regard to his accuracy.

Scott Zolak claims that BB had Mallet rated as the #1 QB in the entire draft.

Wait............ I thought we just brought Ocho in so we could cut him later on so BB can set an example for the rest of the team. Why are we wasting practice time throwing passes to him.

Dan Pompeii would not approve.

Belichick: 'Big week' for Pats - Extra Points - Boston.com - Shalise Manza Young

He wasn't too pleased with the special teams performance on Thursday: "I think we had our moments. At times we covered well; we only punted once, but we covered that well. We covered some kickoffs well, there was definitely one we didn't cover well. In the return game, we didn't return the kickoffs very well, I was disappointed in that. We had one long punt return called back - it was a close call (on the penalty) but a little bit of a sign of life there...I think we need a little bit better play out of the specialists as a group, you can't really be strong in the kicking game if the specialists don't play well."

A little bit more on the new guy here:

Competition for Tracey White....

Competition for Tracey White....

I don't think White was the issue the other night. Murrell was horrible on coverage. So was Wilhite.

Tracy White and Matt Slater were two of the better players on STs.

Yeah, from my what I saw I'm in complete agreement. But is there room for another ST-only/primarily player on this roster?

One more 8/14 Practice Report: a 12-minute audio podcast from the Patriots Football Weekly crew:

Where would he fit on the roster is what I am wondering, IMO Murrell isn't making the team looking at the current roster.

From Andy Hart's blog:

Andre Carter was the star of the practice. The veteran defensive end was a force in the one-on-one drills with the offensive line, at one point badly beating No. 1 pick Nate Solder. He also beat Light and was then an active force in team drills near the end of practice. Carter clearly has the size and speed to win battles on the edge and may be the team's best individual pass rusher at this point in camp

I have to admit I am so looking forward to seeing the starters during the 4th Pre-season game, and then on down to Miami to open the season.

The starters usually get the most playing time in the 3rd game...though maybe some extra time in the 4th game this year due to the longer off season.
