bleacher report should be banned from sports news

The Bleacher Report holds as much weight as any post on this board.

Thats essentially what it is - an extended message board post.

I like him too.

Erik Frenz is a good guy. He deserves better than Bleacher Report.

Agreed.

If I'm not mistaken he recently went to work at NESN as an intern.

This guy has been a pleasant suprise so far. I think he is going to fit in just fine here.

Anderson no longer on roster BUBBle

Mark Anderson - DL - Patriots

Patriots OLB/DE Mark Anderson "looked like a beast coming off the edge in the team’s third down package" in Thursday's preseason opener.
Anderson was believed to be on the roster bubble, but it now looks like he could be Tully Banta-Cain's replacement after turning back the clock to 2006 against Jacksonville. "He's a true professional," said DL coach Pepper Johnson. "The first time he gets out there on the field, he makes a difference. He looked real good."

And bye Eric Moore

Re: Anderson no longer on roster BUBBle

I'm not quite ready to grant him a roster spot. BB makes the final calls, not Pepper Johnson. He did well against a very average offensive line. There are so many defensive linemen on the team that some good players will be cut. We'll have to continue to pay attention in the 2nd and 3rd preseason games to see how he performs in his subpackage role rushing the passer against 100% 1's. We play the Bucs and Lions next. I look forward.

We've heard compliments of cut players before. And we've seen future cuts play well in preseason games too.

Re: Anderson no longer on roster BUBBle

So far so good for this guy.

Here's a link to the full column; it has some other pretty good stuff as well for anybody that's interested:

Patriots defensive lineman Mark Anderson making an impact; Chad Ochocinco and Albert Haynesworth are not going anywhere | masslive.com | Nick Underhill

All the talk about the New England Patriots defensive line quickly moved past Mark Anderson after the team signed Shaun Ellis and Andre Carter to the point that he was left off most 53-man roster predictions prior to Thursday’s game, mine included.

But in another example of Bill Belichick always being the smartest man in the room, Anderson looked like a beast coming off the edge in the team’s third down package Thursday against Jacksonville and consistently caused havoc for quarterback Blaine Gabbert.

Most were perplexed when the team unceremoniously dumped their best pass rusher Tully Banta-Cain prior to camp, but it looks like Anderson could be a key component in getting after the quarterback in 2011.

Re: Anderson no longer on roster BUBBle

Anderson was the 1 w/ the GREAT rookie season and after that he dropped off b/c of a coaching change and a scheme change right?

Re: Anderson no longer on roster BUBBle

Anderson appears to be a sub package guy, not sure I would calssify More that way. Anderson may be competing with A Carter for a job?

Re: Anderson no longer on roster BUBBle

The battle at DE will be epic. I wouldn't count Moore out just yet as I think he has value against the run as well.

The only issue I have against Mark Anderson is that his name sounds like that of a tax consultant. But 12 sacks in his rookie year is nothing to sneeze at. even if it was in 2006.

If Moore wants to make the team, he either has to beat out Carter for the starting spot or Anderson for the subpackage spot. Ellis seems to have the starting LE spot locked in by virtue of his $4M cap hit, and they aren't keeping Moore as the 4th DE over Cunningham.

I agree w/ you

Patriots agreed to terms with DE Andre Carter.
If there was still any doubt the Pats were going to more of a 4-3 look this year, the Carter signing should put it to rest. Both he and Albert Haynesworth made it clear that they were unhappy after the Redskins switched to a 3-4 last season. Now 32 but with 13.5 sacks over the past two seasons, Carter is a nice pickup so late in free agency. He fills a much-needed situational pass rusher role in New England. Aug 7, 9:22 PM

w/ the Jet guy and Anderson already on Roster it seems hard to believe we carry 3 situational guys. Unless... they view Mr. Anderson or the exJet as a 4-3 starter. I wonder if there is any way we keep 3. I blame the NFL for not making the Roster to 55. 53 is too small.

Re: Anderson no longer on roster BUBBle

Anderson had a good first preseason game against a weak offense. I want to see more of the same through the 3rd preseason game before I'm convinced of his role on the team. I glad he displayed the skills for which he's been known so well in Thursday's game. I just want to see him do this with the Pats' number 1 defense against the better offenses. He could be even more effective running his scheme with the Pats starters. This is one of the more interesting elements of the new personnel during this preseason.
