I was there today and pretty much everything he said was dead on. Brady was making it look easy today. However, I did see Malcolm Williams signing autographs at the end, and he says he was out and not visibile.

It's interesting that almost every reporter/analyst is down on Cunningham in practice then come game day he's reasonable. Go figure.

I think we're quite fortunate to have a lot of very good writers who follow the Pats.

Ask fans who have travel quite a bit on their job, or those that live elsewhere about coverage in other regions on those teams in comparison to the quantity and quality of writers of Pats writers.

Considering the amount of complaining about this writer or that column that crops up on a regular basis here, I think there is a large portion of fans that have no idea how good they have it with the coverage available on the Pats.

I totally agree, and was surprised at the slam on the Globe in the OP. It seems to me the Globe has delivered a strong series of Pats beat reporters in Reiss, Breer and Bedard.

Anyway...yes, that was a terrific camp write-up! (Maybe all our whining for details paid off? Thanks, Greg!)

I agree 1000%!!! He is already, head and shoulders above every Pats analyst.

Anyone else kind of worried about Haynesworth and Spikes, they have not practiced in over a week. I expected both of them to start, but if do start practicing their spots are gonna be seriously in jeopardy. Any thoughts?

This actually worried me in a way. I hope it's because Gronk is really that good and not that our defense has a hard time with great TE's. It seems like we have trouble with offenses with good TE's.

You can add SMY. Speaking as a Globe subscriber, it pains me how little coverage they give the Pats. The sports pages read like advertorial for the Red Sox. Anything good the Globe does on football comes as a pleasant surprise.

(By the way, someone who gets paid for writing should know the difference between "pouring over" and "poring over". If you don't, find a different cliche, Mr Bedard!)

He also comes from the Reiss school of delivering a lot of information in short-form style, which is a good change from those who see themselves as "writer" rather than reporters. The guys whose value I just don't see is Gasper; he comes across as a whiny kid on the radio, and yesterday he had a loooong column about how it's tough to out too much value on what you see in a pre-season game. Not really insightful.

On the Bedard column linked to in the OP: He seems to be consistently up on Anderson, which is a good sign. The note on Ochocinco got my attention: The offense had its best day, Chad was not a part of it until very late, and the first throw to him was Brady's first incompletion of the day. SO, offense shines except when star receiver is part of it; we've seen this before. I think this will be an important week for 85.

To be fair, if I was a beat reporter, the last NFL team I would choose to cover would be the Patriots. As a beat reporter you are suppose to dig up all the little nuggets that the Patriots staff and players are never going to give you. It must be very difficult to come up with 3 or 4 blog or article worthy bits of information when dealing with the Pats.

The Jets would be the easiest team to cover followed by anything to do with James Harrison's thoughts.

"Prone to the gratuitous snark"... You nailed it on what it wrong with most of the local pundits. I blame it on youth and the culture they come up in. Bedard is clearly more professional in his demeanor and approach for the most part than the copy boys he's competing with. I think it's an is what it is atmosphere that has developed here due to winning teams emerging at a time when print jobs in a dying industry serve merely as stepping stones to multi media and potentially with the nationals gigs. Not sure he's much older than the rest but he doesn't exhibit the frat boy mentality that the Felger wannabes do.

Best reporter, hands down. The detailed factual reporting is what's missing from others reports. Of the 7-8 practices I've watched this year, I have always agreed with his report content.

About 10 minutes before practice ends, all the media members leave the media tent and go over to the interview area. There's one guy that always stays behind and works on his laptop. I'm pretty sure that's Bedard. So I think Shalise deserves some credit too, being the other part of the team...
