Brady has 5 or 6 years left to play and by then Mallett will be in his late 20's where you are expected to have 3 or 4 years of starting experience to be considered a franchise QB. I see Mallett being a franchise QB though, except not in NE, and you have to be wishing Brady to suck or get injured to think Mallett will ever be the face of the Patriots. Mallett is not wating 6 years on the bench to finally start lmao

If Brady does have 5 or 6 yrs left, it's not written in stone that he will play all of those years here.

Interesting comments.. remember Joe Montana and Steve Young, it is good to have what might be a pretty good qb as your back up..

But in reality it is difficult to predict much of anything after half of the first pre season game...

Brady is washed up. Mallett will be starting by week three.

With QBs playing till 40 nowadays I don't see why Brady won't be the starter until he retires. He's never been a guy who used his feet so I can't see him regressing like a Mike Vick or Mcnabb. Unless Brady's arm gets injured he will never be below number 1 in the depth chart. Even if he only plays for 3 or 4 years only it will be too long and Mallett will be gone by then.

Mallet was not brought in to replace Brady. He was brought in to replace Hoyer who will be an RFA after this season. The plan is to unload Hoyer and have a guy already on the roster who has had a year to learn the system.

If Brady only lasts a few more years before hanging them up, Mallet will be an option to succeed him. If Brady stays longer, then Mallet can be dealt for draft picks and the process repeats itself all over again.

Can we now stop talking about this?

because having the best season of your career makes you washed up... Brady is in his prime right now how is he washed up?
He's also one blown blocking assignment away from having his career ended and either of Hoyer or Mallett stepping in to his shoes. That's the nature of football.

Never take anything for granted loloooooooooooo.

It's called sarcasm buddy, learn it.

this isn't real life buddy it's pretty hard to see the tone in his posts, and considering there are tons of people who are slow in the head in the internet I wouldn't be surprised if he was serious

So you guys are expecting Brady to get hurt soon? Even then it's too early for Mallet to come in and Hoyer is not good enough to take over

I think it's sufficient to ignore you moving forward if that's what you took from my post.

Lol, can't believe you actually took him seriously. :p

All I got is that the NFL is so dangerous Starting QB's careers ending is a common occuring thing... Brady got knocked out once, but he is a very durable QB and expecting him to get hurt is just looking at everything at the worst case. Drafting Mallett was for him to replace Hoyer as the backup, but he's definitely not going to be the franchise QB barring a freak accident

I'm not sure what's so funny here.

Want to let us in on the joke?

I'd like to see you inform Belichick of all this at his next press conference. Now THAT would be funny!

How many QB have won SB's at 40 yrs old?

That is the goal around here you know......

There is of course no guarantee Mallett will become a great QB, just as there is no guarantee Brady will be this productive at 39 yrs old. The history seems to say that QB's don't play at an elite level past 38, if Brady is the exception fine with me.

IF Mallett develops and fulfills the potential of his arm with the ability to become an elite qb in terms of reading D's the I would pay top $$$ to keep him around the year or 2 until Brady retires.

This is a silly thread at this time however.
