Is 98.5 Serious with Ted Sarandis?

At the beach listening to aol app, he comes
On interviewing Perillo. Sarandis starts saying how Ridley came out of nowhere to surprise everyone and make the team. Then coming back from a break he says reports out of Foxboro says Mallet has a good chance to make the team. No f-ing $h1t Ted. Terence was never a question they would not be on the team. He knows so little about football it's embarrassing to 98.5. Same guy who whined that last year was a 6-10 team.

I, for one, am shocked everytime a third-round pick makes the team.

Re: Is 98.5 Serious with Ted Sarandis?

I was taken aback a bit when I heard Ted Sarandis come on-he's just a bit out of it when it comes to the Patriots at least. Thought it was funny when he called the show "Ted Nation," his old EEI handle when he is a fill-in.

I do have to say when I do listen to sports radio, I've been tuning the dial to 98.5 a bit more lately as I could never take listening to D&C in the morning, the Mutt and Merloni show is just awful, and I don't really care for the Big Show now that they changed the format. I used to look forward to seeing who was on for the day-now it's just boring all the time. Some of those Big Show co-hosts are showing up on 98.5-I heard Perrillo today and McAdam the other day. I do have to say though I can't take Mazz & Felger and Mike Adams is a joke, so my sports radio listening is limited these days. Sad to say.

Sports radio has taken a double flush.. Mutt and Merloni just plain suck, they try to be knowledgeable about Hockey and now football, but fail miserably their schtick is contrived and phony . The only time I like the early EEI show is when D& C are on vacation and Dale Arnold fills in. Gresch always was and is a freaking joke, Zo tries to be edgy when all he needs to be is knowledgeable... still favor Holley and Ordway to the resident contrarians on 98.5..
'
Overall they have all gone down and find my IPOD is often a better alternative than the crap on the radio.. sometimes I email Jason Wolfe and tell him how his radio station sucks, but of course he denies it. Guess he does not check the ratings.

Ted Sarandis needs to be in assisted living..

S-I-R-I-U-S/X-M

That cures all of your sports talk needs. Want informed football, NBA, NHL, and MLB talk? They have a station dedicated to each.

Mutt and Merloni know nothing about football, and Mike Adams knows even less. I just leave it on 98.5 now -- more football talk all around. It was great early today, exclusively Patriots talk.

BB took Ridley in the 3rd round, apparently not EVERYONE was surprised.

It may have been a surprise to those who seriously took Mel Kiper, the MSM, et al as experts.......

Re: OT: Show host rap battles on 98.5

But even worse is listening to Gresch and Zo... they bring pain to my ears.

I think that Gresch is the best football guy locally. You Gresh bashers are basing him on what he looks like. But listen to what he says: he is very well spoken and knowledgeable and pretty funny. I also love that he can beat on twerps such as Felger.

Re: OT: Show host rap battles on 98.5

Cannot stand Merloni and Munanski, they are trying to sound like football intelligentia, but fail miserably. They sound like they just discovered the Patriots and the NFL and this is their rookie year. They tried to become Bruins, NHL smart and failed miserably.

But even worse is listening to Gresch and Zo... they bring pain to my ears.

Tough choices, shytty and shyttier...

I actually like Mut and Merloni because they really don't take themselves to seriously. The last thing I want to listen to is any of them act like experts ... field the calls - talk some crap ... that's enough for me while I am in my car otherwise I never listen - only when driving.

If WEEI really wants to do something then bring back Pete ... I Love Pete.

Okay enough of the stupidity for me ... seriously ... in this day and age of Twitter and MyFace and instant news these shows have no shot at offering new info like the old days. I think they are best when they do interviews and field some calls - that's all i care for anyways is mostly interviews.

Re: OT: Show host rap battles on 98.5

IMO.... if you know what you're talking about, you have a much better home in WEEI. If you don't, you are much more attracted to 98.5

Mornings: D&C are knowledgable. Put your politics aside and realize when they talk sports they have a clue, much more than T&R - who to be honest are juvenile. I'm 23 and they strike me as immature - and don't know a damn thing about sports.

Middays: Awful and awful. It is beyond me how Mutnansky is a full time host in this market, he is miserable. Merloni is good regarding baseball but that's it. Gresh and Zo are intolerably awful as well.... I find myself listening to music in the middays now - when before I would never change Dale and Holley.

Afternoons: Big Show is okay - Ordway is done - when Dale filled in with Holley in the afternoons a couple weeks ago it sounded great....maybe it's time to go back that direction and knock Ordway and his fat contract to middays - because D&H would beat Felger and Mazz handily

Nights: Mikey all the way. If you don't like Mikey...you're not a guy. D.A. is knowledgeable, but boring.

Weekends: Can't believe it has come to this, but Mustard and Johnson are better than all of the weekend shows on 98.5....

Disagree completely Gresch shyt the bed when he was on the score in RI and has not progressed, he sound rather dumb to me... Zo would be better if he stuck to being an expert, rather than just another sensationalist..

All of the choices right now are pyss poor..

Re: OT: Show host rap battles on 98.5

Gotta admit. I've stopped listening except for SIRIUS NFL radio.

Some random thoughts:
1. I agree with FredFromDartmouth --- Gresch is my favorite, Holley #2.
2. Dale and Holley was the one listenable show on EEI. Now they have none. WEEI is geared to the 68-year-old, slightly-******ed-but-undiagnosed, barber-shop crowd. The Big Show was a cacophony of people yelling over each other, pausing occasionally to take calls from drunk men.
3. 98.5 = where to go for Pats and Bruins talk. EEI is for Red Sox.
4. How many of you go all the way back to Ordway doing Bruins Replay in the early 80s? And his show with Mike Andrews.
5. Gresch's rap (vs. Felger) was great, and Felger's was good too. Far above the mostly-inane results such efforts usually produce.

Don't know for sure what you mean by this, but it doesn't apply to football talk.

Gresh and Zo know football, which is all I care about.

Heh. I'll amend this to suggest: If you don't like Mikey, you're older than 14 and a Patriots fan. The guy is a clown, and a bad one. He knows pre-adolescent humor and the '60s Red Sox, and that's about it. He knows NOTHING about football and doesn't seem to really care. I will never forget a year or so ago (before I wrote him off altogether), when he couldn't tell which teams were in the NFC and which were AFC. He made a complete fool of himself and should've been fired for that alone.

Re: OT: Show host rap battles on 98.5

I switched to 98.5 as soon as it was around for mostly one reason: I hate D&C. I think they're despicable human beings, and beyond that, I don't want to hear political speak when I'm looking for sports talk. If I wanted to listen to whiny racist republican douchebags I'd do that. When I turn on sports radio I want to hear about sports. Toucher and Rich are juvenile, but they are a million times more entertaining than D&C (and seriously, 23 year old guy up above, lighten up eh?).

Holley is great but Arnold is both boring and unknowledgeable, and that's a dangerous combination. I don't mind Gresh and Zolak. Their non-football knowledge is limited, but they at least seem like they try.

The Big Show was old years ago. I don't even mind Ordway that much, I just think the entire format of the show sucks, the whiner line is stupid, the callers are almost as annoying as the hosts...there is just nothing good here aside from Holley.

Felger and Mazz is pretty good most of the time as long as Felger is on it. Felger seems like the most well rounded of all of the guys knowledge wise, being able to cover NFL MLB and NHL without completely embarrassing himself. People just have to realize he's a character, trying to get a rise out of people a lot of the time. Mazz on the other hand is brutal -- completely inept in non-baseball sports, and merely bad with baseball.

BRING BACK PETE!

Pete Shepard to Carol from North Carolina after she calls all the men in R.I. spacones..."well Carol...you're nothing but a piece of white trash..in fact ..the highlight of your day is getting in your car and driving to the mall to get a Big Mac..."...

in related news, as far as sports radio goes, familiarity breeds contempt..

Funny, I thought if you don't like Mike Adams you realize there is more to Boston sports than 1960s and 1970s Red Sox which apparently is all he knows how to talk about other than the Yankees tattoo on his arse. Adams is awful and I am embarrassed for him when he pretends he actually knows about football.

One thing both stations need to do is ban Steve from Fall River, Dakota from Braintree (although he is Ordway's exclusive), Frank from Glouchester, Everett, Danny from Quincy, and every other serial caller who only purpose seems to say ludicrious inflamatory comments that make the host look good.

But that is the crux of this thread, it is no longer about sports it is about who has the bigger personality.. and who has the greatest bombasity. For some reason they think that this keeps listeners listening... nothing could be further.

The medium has become the message.

About two weeks ago, I tuned into WEEI to listen to a scheduled BB press conference. The idiots were talking over the interview, making fun of the nonanswers. To the point that it was impossible to follow the press conference itself. Well done WEEI, you finally drove me away from the last thing that would make me tune into the station. Now I got 98.5 on swole.
