Thought for sure Carolina would have traded for him. Makes a weak division opponent weaker, but a possible playoff opponent better.

Filed to ESPN: Buffalo has traded WR Lee Evans traded to Baltimore.

That's a nice pick up for them, in an off season that hasn't been a good one. They lost several guys they evidently thought they could re-sign on the cheap. I wonder what it cost them. Evans was always a good WR who hasn't had a decent QB in years. Some might say that he still doesn't ;)

I thought this might be one of his landing destinations. Under achiever, hot and cold although he played on some pretty bad teams there in Buffalo. change of scenery might be good for him to revitalize his better than Bethel Johnson career.

For a 4th Round pick.

Evans seems to be a good WR (my opinion) and the trade-off seems to be a wash for me. We know Evans and his play, they know Ochocinco's.

Then again, Ocho and Brady should have a very different dynamic than palmer and Ocho. I'd say we win the swap out (should we meet them this post season).

For all the hoopla the Ravens got a year ago when they added Anquan Boldin, TJ Housmandzadeh, Donte Stallworth and TE Ed ****son to a roster that already had Derrick Mason, Todd Heap, and Ray Rice catching passes out of the backfield, I thought their passing game would have been a bit more dynamic than it was.

Evans hasn't been anything special the last couple of years, but that's understandable considering the state of the Bills offense during that time. With the exception of that one season (2006? 2007?) he's been mostly steady but not spectacular.

Well, we're not scheduled to play them (pending playoff schedules), so I'm not that concerned. But they do play other potential playoff teams in the AFC including the Steelers 2x, Colts, Chargers, and Jets, which should make for better competition and entertainment. They play Pittsburgh week 1 at 1:00 pm. Should be good.

Evans is an upgrade over Derrick Mason. Good pick up for them.

That was my initial reaction, but Mason is so darn SAVVY. He is the kind of guy that the Pats just give up 12 yard outs all day to. Evans gives them a much needed deep threat, but he's not exactly Randy Moss in that regard.

Mason has slowed down a bit and is 37 years old. Evans at this point is an upgrade. Evans is more than just a deep threat though.

The problem is all of those receivers are the same. All of them are possession type receivers who run great slants. They needed a player opposite of Anquan that fits Flacco's style more, one who can run a deep route.

Downfield ability was missing in Baltimore, so the Ravens are gambling on Evans. The issue going forwards is figuring out whether his decline has been because of him or the Bills.

If it's been because of the Bills general ineptitude, the Ravens just got more dangerous. Time will tell.

The Buffalo Bills........... Continuing to do everything in their power this offseason to remain irrelevant.

Agree. Good for Evans, good for the Ravens.

We'll finally get to see what this kid can do when hes not the only player on the field who doesn't suck.

Lee Evans was relevant in 2006, his career year. He was reasonably good in 2008. The rest of his seasons have been average.

Could be a good pick up as a 3rd receiver, but that's about it.

I was thinking the complete opposite. Evans is on a downward trend, and maybe it was the QB play, but they had a good QB last year. Mason has always been productive and consistent. If I were Baltimore I'd rather have the guy who is still proven and knows the system.

Derrick Mason vs Lee Evans. It's not even close when comparing Mason to Evans.

Even at 36/37, Mason had a considerably better season than a 29/30 year old Evans. Evans is the type of guy who has wooed people with a couple of aberrations, Mason has been a consistently good performer over his entire career.

All that said, I think Evans will service a role for the Ravens. It's obvious Boldin is their go to man and I'm sure the offense will run through Boldin and Rice.

You put it better than I could.
