Of all the receivers over the last 10 years I always thought Cotchery would fit in best with what we do here. Even during your teams worst years he was always a handful to cover. I recently thought that Brad Smith would take his role once JC retired but that's not the case now. Who is taking his snaps now?

PS I think he was a great pick up for the Steelers.

I thought everyone wanted to play for Rex? That question sounds like a broken record over the last couple of weeks around these parts.

Mason flashed skill but his consistency is pretty much gone. I think Plaxico will do ok,probably dominate on some occasions but healthwise he will be a big question mark also.

Personally, I think the Jets are taking a risk having two old WRs as their #2 and #3 WR, but I don't know if losing Cotchery is that big of a deal. Cotchery has declined every year since 2007.

Evidently the plan is to replace Cotchery with D Mason. I love Cotch, good guy and an over acheiver.

The story is he wanted to be the #2 and was upset with the role of the #3, reason being he was looking to sign one more contract and get paid, and the likely hood of getting a good pay day while stuck in the #3 role he felt was slim. Story is he asked to be traded or cut before the lock out. His back injury and his decline in play the last few years where enough for the Jets to grant his wish.

Brad Smith, another great guy and a play maker. The problem with Smith is the Jets no longer require his services for the amount of dollars it would of cost to resign him. With the maturation of Sanchez the use of the wildcat will be less of a weapon, the new kick return rules, his less then stellar receiving abilities all decrease his value for the Jets.

I wish them both good health.

I think Cotchery just overvalued himself. He thought he could be a #2 type receiver, and with the Jets bringing in Holmes and Burress, figured that he wouldn't get that opportunity and asked out. The Jets must have had an inside feeling that Mason would join them to be their #3 guy, so obliged.

Cotchery then went to the free agency market and found out that Baltimore didn't even want him, and that Pittsburgh wanted him as their #5 guy. Knowing he couldn't ask the Jets to take him back, and considering if he did, he would have gone back to be the #4 guy instead of the #3 guy since the Jets responded by signing Mason, he felt that he needed to take the Pittsburgh job as his only option.

He was never a consistent player, but he did make some damn nice catches, which probably made fans think he had great talent, when he was never more than average. That combined with the back injury sealed his fate.
