We have over $11M of cap money available.

Next signings are anyone's guess.

My guess would be an interior lineman or two, especially if Cannon is headed for the PUP list. Even if he make the 53 in place of Ohrnberger, we could still use an upgrade of Wendell.

Depending on how ready Solder is, Belichick might pick up a Game Day veteran OT, who can backup at both RT and LT.

And yes, there is the obvious need for an OLB as an upgrade of Anderson, who many of us have penciled in as the 4th OLB at the moment.

As would I. It'd be nice to hold off a year on Mayo, but it's not a requirement. I'm just happy this team has the luxury of being able to make these choices.

As for additional help, I'm not really certain who else is out there right now that I'd consider pulling in, barring any injuries or performance issues. I'd want to be looking at guys that Coach likes, football players first, but able to comprehend the system, get up to speed quickly, and fit into the team chemistry. That's a fair amount to ask, and not a whole lot of time to get it done. I wouldn't want to spend just for the sake of spending, and I really don't fear this veteran front office doing that.

So who's available that might fit those needs?

I know the move I want them to make and right now I think they could pull it off. If I'm not mistaken Ngata is under the franchise tag and I don't think the Ravens have the room right now to match an offer. Sign him and give up the 2 Firsts. Nastiest DL in football.

But I guess I've (unfortunately) always feared Wes isn't going to get his big payday in NE. I love Welker, but is he worth it according to front office personnel ?

A player in his thirties, with a major injury a few years ago, and a VERY similar player on the team and - by all accounts - having a good camp in Edelman.

If there is that much cash, extensions should be granted to key players and backups from FA should be picked up. I just wonder if Welker is someone NE thinks is in their future plans. Convinced he's an amazing player, NOT convinced he stays long term.

Robert Mathis? Colts obviously aren't going to pay him next year, they already drafted his replacement in 2010, and he's publicly asked for an extension. With all their upcoming Free Agents, they could use some extra picks in 2012. Coming off 3 consecutive pro bowls as a DE... could see him as an Elvis Dummervil type player.

Colts never do trades, and never sacrifice now for later. I think this may be some of the most reckless speculation I've ever engaged in.

If the front office has finished making big moves for the offseason, I think the smartest thing to do with the cap space would be to take on as much of Mankin's salary as we can this year. This will free up more cap space in the future to sign guys like Mayo, Welker and Vollmer. This is what the Eagles were talking about doing with Vick, extending him, but not reducing the cap hit for this year when they have space, to create more space for the future.

Two words: Osi Umenyiora. He's still holding out. The Giant's 'incentives' which require Osi to reach 13.5 sacks before making more money are kinda laughable. The Giants are playing hardball, not just because they have him under contractual control but because of the emergence of their 1st round pick of last year JPP:

So the Giants already have a young talented 2nd year player ready to step up if they lose Osi.

Next consider that the Giants just lost Steve Smith to free agency to... you guessed it, the Eagles!

Where are Eli's weapons? Boss gone. Steve Smith gone. And Osi's still holding out.

Solution: Trade a 2nd round pick plus Brandon Tate for the rights to Osi Umenyiora. Negotiate an AD/Colvin type deal with Osi then line up with the best defensive line in football -- Ellis-Wilfork-Haynesworth-Umenyiora.

Sounds too crazy to be true right? We'll see. But the Pats definitely have the ammo and the cap space to make an impact move.
