Big Game tonight!

Although unlikely, it is still possible for San Francisco to overtake Seattle for the NFC West crown.

San Fran won their first meeting, so if they could win tonight, they would have the tie-breaker over Seattle.

Seattle needs only one more win to win the NFC East, but if they lose tonight, they have to travel to San Diego next week, and then finish the season in Tampa Bay (their only trip to the east coast this year!)

San Francisco would have to win out, at home against Arizona, and then they end the year in Denver (hopefully they will keep Cutler starting).


Bottomline if San Fran somehow overtakes Seattle, their, I mean the Pats pick could easily fall into the low teens.

Evidently they could fall below #21 anyway because if a non playoff team has a better record than a playoff team, the playoff team still picks ahead of the non playoff team. I thought the opposite but was corrected on the draft board. The playoff vs. non playoff issue comes up in ties - if two teams have the same record then making the playoffs is the first tiebreaker as opposed to the usual Strength of Schedule.

Speaking of SoS, Seattle's is so bad they are guaranteed to pick earliest in their record group which is also a good thing. Every loss just moves them down into the next record group so even if we assume they win the division a loss tonight for Seattle would still be nice.

Scary is also what I would call that Niners backfield after Harris, Spencer and Adams. If Spencer's not fully back, San Fran could have a long night.

It starts at 5:00 Pacific according to ESPN. That's just an hour away. SF hasn't played tough against a good team on the road yet this year, and they're reeling right now. Good luck to them.

Before I answer, this is the rule that someone posted :

"Teams are placed in order from lowest winning percentage to the highest. . . . If a playoff and non-playoff team end the season with the same winning percentage, the non-playoff team selects before the playoff team regardless of strength of schedule."

Now. It actually makes sense if you think it through. The goal of the draft is to get the lesser teams the better picks to the best degree possible. So it makes sense that the lesser record gets a higher pick regardless of playoff status. So the question becomes, why would making the playoffs be the tiebreaker over SoS ?

Well, think of it this way. In 2002 the Browns made the playoffs over the Patriots as a WC with both teams 9-7 but the Browns won the tiebreaker based on better Common Opponents. However the Patriots had the better SoS. So in that case you have two tied teams. The Browns make the playoffs based on a tiebreaker. But they also pick higher than the Patriots based on a different tiebreaker ? So tiebreakers would have given the Browns the playoff spot AND the higher pick. That would be total BS.

So having playoffs as the first tiebreaker it allows the likely lesser team (the one with the worse record) to pick higher if the record is worse than a non-playoff team but it guarantees that if teams are tied with the same record that different tiebreakers can't simultaneously put a team in the playoffs and also ahead in the draft of a team that was bumped, through a tiebreaker, out of the playoffs.

As mediocre as the Seahawks have looked, they're still the better team of the two - so I'm a big fan of the rain; bad weather can even out teams quicker than anything other than major injuries

I think the Pats should go after RFA DJ Hackett if they don't have to give up a high draft pick. All depends what Seattle tenders him. he has good size.

I see Seattle ending the year at 9-7. It's still disappointing tho because they won so many close game especially against the rams twice. greenbay had them through several quarters.

but at 9-7 the pick hopefully will be around 20. hopefully they can get a cd, safety, or lb(obviously best available) and then the 2nd 1st rounder whatever they don't get the first time. and the mid to low 2nd rounder hopefully will be a wr if they haven't gotten one.

i'm thinking they need at least two or three additional wr's this offseason.

Hackett's certainly looking better than some other WR I can think of on Seattle. They're paying Branch and Burleson about $12M combined, not sure how much more they'll want to put into WR.

That is a good point, but at the same time it wouldn't be that much for seattle to tender him and prevent a team from going after him because of the draft pick compensation.

I could see them tendering him becuase of jackson's knee issues.

It would be nice if the Pats could get hackett.
