Patriots Number Two in the Latest ESPN NFL Power Rankings

If ESPN 'experts' supposedly do these stupid lists by last years statistics and off-season signings and moves then the Patriots should definitely be at the top, SB or not.

GB barely made the playoffs and only made the SB because Jay Cutler sucked as usual. The Steelers D is old and I just know if the Pats had beat the Jets they would've easily beat the Steelers(as always) and made the dang SB. But whatever, the Pats hating on ESPN continues...

Philly is overrated -- I really don't see the improvement in the D and Mike Vick as usual will be injured by week 3 and it's all downhill from there or he might just return to old form, where he hardly throws the ball and runs all the time -- until he's injured again.

Time to take the homer glasses off, we're not Jets fans. Don't declare us the greatest before the preseason has even started :bricks:

i dont like that just because the Packers are defending the title, they are automatically number one in the power rankings. they made no free agent acquisitions and lost a couple decent players. packers are in the top 5, but not number one.

Considering their post season performances of late the Patriots should be ranked alot lower than 2...nothing gets Pats fanboy's panties in a bunch more than getting "slighted" in the latest power poll.....OK, going off last season and offseason acquisitions, did the Patriots do ANYTHING to address the lack of fire, intensity, and apparently heart, that this team has had lately in the POST SEASON? Wait, let me check, do haynesworth, chad ochocinco, et al., have careers checkered with playoff/big game brilliance??????
I really get the impression that the majority of people on Patsfans.com would rather the team go 14-2, post huge offensive numbers, and lose at home in the divisional round than go 10-6 scoring 20 points a game and win a wild card game....

I have no issue with the Packers at number 1. They are a very strong and well coached team (with plenty of returning injured stars).

The problem with your mentality is that it takes into account the season prior not the season coming. If the experts see fit to rate sides on off-season acquisitions, drafting, list improvement, team improvement etc for the season coming, then what's the problem?

Jets should be #1 right? Am I doing it right?

This type of idiot thinking is even worse than preseason power rankings.

"Post season performances of late" Talk about stupid logic. It's....2011. Preseason rankings are predictive. If anyone used this dumbness, the Packers had zero chance in 2010. What did they do lately.

All a preseason ranking can do is look at the previous ear, review the debits and credits and project.

What would be a more valuable exercise is to pick the top 10 or 12 and see how they matchup.

Leave the posting to members with actual brains.

Why is it when we have differing opinions from another member here we have to resort to insulting their intelligence? I'm just getting started here, but if I have to deal with being called stupid every time I post something somebody else disagrees it's almost not worth it. I want to talk football when I come here, not measure my manhood.

Sorry. Off topic.

Here's a local writer that's sold on the Pats.

Or drinking too much Foxboro KoolAid, depending on your point of view.

The offense needed one more good receiver, depth at running back and continuity on the offensive line. Check, check and check. They added Nate Solder in the draft but kept Matt Light, allowing them to duplicate their 2010 offensive line if that's what they choose. They added two rookie runners in the draft and brought back Kevin Faulk (although he's a bit of a longshot to make the team in my book). And the addition of Chad Ochocinco gave Tom Brady a better version of Deion Branch for the rotation, allowing Branch to settle back into a No. 3 role that suits him better.

Could this be the first all-time great Patriots defense? If everyone were to stay healthy and play to their potential, absolutely.

By my count, the current roster has 14 players that started at least five games for New England last year, and they add Ellis, Carter, Albert Haynesworth, Leigh Bodden (2009 starter) and rookie Ras-I Dowling.

That's a lot of depth, and a lot of flexibility.

Worthless and should be used for entertainment purposes only.

Simple remedy...easy solution.

Don't post dumb things.

Obviously, pointing out the obvious hurts in some places.

#2 in the preseason power rankings, whoopee!

Does this mean that our 3rd string QB, special teamers and practice squad can beat anyone else's 3rd string QB, special teamers and practice squad?

#2.....not according to vegas

they did end the Regular season last year as the #1 team in the NFL they have not lost any big names and add it two big names so they should be #2

Weren't the Cowboys like 2 or 3 in the rankings last year? Tells you how much these power rankings mean.

Two thoughts:

One, "back in the day," I always thought that the Pats should be ranked Number One at the beginning of any season after they won the SB, so I'm not changing now. The Pack is SB Champion and so is Number One until it demonstrates otherwise on the field. They earned it. They deserve it.

Two, Pre-season Power Rankings and about Four bucks will get you a Venti Latte at Starbucks.

The Packers had significant injury issues last year and their guys have come back. That (along with a Super Bowl victory) is plenty of reason for them to be ranked #1 at this point.

Two answers.

One, there are some posters out here whose main contribution to a thread is to belittle other posters or put them in boxes based on a word or two in their comment, without reading the rest. It's best just to ignore them because arguing with them is futile. Kind of like talking to a brick wall with a keyboard.

Two, I'm not sure what comment you made that got a negative response, but people do occasionally say dumb things out here and sometimes people can't contain themselves in response. But, most of us do try.

Are you referring to the post right above yours?

In any case, do yourself a favor by having such moronic posters on ignore.

Most of the members post with respect when they disagree or have counter points (at least at the initial stages; long winded arguments do spill over to the bitter side and provide a good source of amusement to the rest :)).

However, there are a few who think BB calls them every hour to get their thoughts on the Pats and so strut around thinking they know better. :D The ignore key is a wonderful tool for such wonderful members.

Sounds about right. The Packers are 1 by default, but we were just destroying teams at the end of last regular season. Including some elite teams like Pittsburgh, NYJ, and Chicago. The young defense is 1 year more mature, and we've had what could be a dynamite offseason to improve the few areas we needed help at. It's hard to improve on 14-2 but it's also hard to imagine this team getting any worse over this offseason.
