With the mad scramble that is FA we have signed alot of vet DL. Now most have come from a 43 system and the cutting of Ty Warren makes me think that a singular precious(expensive)NT may be a luxury not needed if we are revamping our DL. BB often seems to focus on 1 set of players each season for a major overhaul. DBs/WRs/RBs, etc. With all the additions at DL, returning only 1 "starter", and despite Vince's skill level maybe he is being evaluated against his contract. This may not be a popular thread cuz everyone wants to think about both Vince and Al stuffing the run, but didnt we think the same way about Lawyer Milloy when Rodney was signed? Yes Vince sure can play DT but then is he worth his contract at that position? Maybe they are angling for him to restructure?? Opinions?

So "Baby Sapp" can't play in a 4-3 now? :bricks:

I'll believe it when I see it.

I don't think anyone other than Brady is untouchable for BB, but it seems unlikely...unless there were multiple picks being offered and even then it shouldn't happen until next season.

Lawyer and Rodney were both Strong Safeties at the time. That is a bad example and proof that the fans were naive in thinking we were going to play with both of them in the back field.

Losing the last of the Big 3 would be a shocker and yes, extremely dissapointing, but it wouldn't be the first time BB has done something of that nature like you mentioned. Don't even want to think about it.

Or Bill could just be throwing a handful of noodles at a wall to see what sticks?

Milloy was no longer performing to the level BB wanted from his Safety, Harrison made his release something we could do. Wilfork continues to dominate and do everything BB wants and more. What you are seeing is the Pats FO building around Wilfork, not finding ways to get rid of 'em. Not a single guy on the DL could do what Vince does for this D, not a single one.

This thread won't be popular because what you are saying is ridiculous, not because you're bringing up a subject that's hard to swallow.

Big Vince has shown himself to be a true leader on this team. His play was at its peak last year and there is no reason to expect it to decline. He is worth his money. IMHO he is a top 5 DT this year. Coupled with his leadership-you do not penny pinch.

Vince is still involved heavily of the future of this team. He is signed to what amounts to a very reasonable contract even now in 2011, let alone 4 more yrs down the road.

The cost efficiency, talent level, consistency, and versatility clearly outweigh any potential loss of said player.

On top of that, I'd hardly think that a restructuring would come into play so soon into a very reasonable deal. VW gives us the ability to run both a 3-4 and 4-3, can line up at multiple positions, and is an established team leader.

None of these signings have anything at all to do with VW...

This team is better with Big Vince. That statement will be true for some time. Big Vince is so versatile and skilled, that he is a fit for every defensive front the Patriots run.

Remember last year, when he lined up at end? The Patriots were constantly shifting Vince around to cover their DLine injuries with smoke and mirrors. If that doesn't speak volumes about how good he is, you can continue to believe he's not as necessary in a 4-3.

That's like saying you only want one guy who will win almost every one on one. With 4 lineman and 2 stud DTs, something's gotta give. The DTs will either get 1-on-1 matchups or you have 4 blockers for 2 lineman :)rocker:) and 1 OL for the other 2 DEs.

I don't even know what to say... good lord.

LOL. We should cut Vince Wilfork is what you're driving at? This is even more ridiculous than the trade Welker thread.

This would make more sense if there weren't multiple spots on the D-Line that Vince and Haynesworth could play. The reason Lawyer Milloy got cut is because Rodney was going to play SS and Milloy really wasn't suited for any other role.

We're actually trading Big Vince for Liono from the Thundercats and a bag of weed.

I think what OP fails to understand is that the presence of Vince Wilfork makes the AH acquisition possible. AH HATES playing NT. He doesn't want to be the guy in the middle controlling two gaps. Having Wilfork there allows AH to do what he wants to do best, be aggressive, attack, secure in having the big monster next to him controlling the OL and freeing him up to attack. If VW were to leave this team it would all snowball and you'd see AH back in his sulky shell because he'd be forced to play a role that he either doesn't want or is not suited to play. Then you'd have no dominant Dlinemen available and a lot of headaches.

Epic fail.

Up there with the trade Welker thread and the old "Keep Cassell, trade Brady" thread from 2008

Dumpster material, and let's hope trash day comes soon, because the smell is so bad.

It's replies like this one here that goes beyond a simple 'like' I need a mega, exploding w/ fireworks all over the place option. Make it happen Ian!

These months away from football has really messed people up with their logical thinking.

I can't wait for the "Let's trade Brady and steal Sanchez" thread. ...
