Chad Jackson is no Superman..yet

WR is not a position that a player usualy comes in and contributes or carries any kind of load right off the bat.. it does happen (look at this season) its not so often though. Also there are alot of Rookie WR's who have a great great rookie year and than are never heard from again..

One thing is certain...we wont see much of Jackson for the rest of the season..if he hasnt gotten Bradys attention yet, he certainly won't get it in the postseaon..looks like its up to Caldwell, Faulk, (hopefully) Maroney and Watson to carry this team as far as receptions go from here on out. We'll probabbly use jacksons speed to stretch the field in absolute desperate situations (man we could have used him vs MIA) and maybe just maybe something magical happens and he catches one and brings it to the house and brady and he build on that for next season... But this is the NFL and it is any given sunday (we know this better than most fans).. I could be eating crow and Jackson could catch for 150+ yds every game from here on out to the bowl.. who knows...

The poistion we are in, Theres not much you can do except sit back and let Belicheck Coach himself out of this and Brady be the cool calm collected qb he is and lead his team out of the jaws of adversity like he has done so many times in the past...We have to stop zeroing in On one savior or an answer to our problems... Randy Moss, Deion Branch, and David Givens arent lining up with Brady anytime soon. Just root for the guys we have to play at their best and stay on the same page because simply thats all that we are missing--- the fire and dedication that some of our teams of the past had. The D is holding up, I dont know what the concern of the defensive backfield is..Our D is Really Good. But When the offense turns over the ball so easily and you have to keep jumping back on the field by the 3rd 4th qtr u are gassed and some plays u might not have given up earlier in the game you do...

Not the best situation for a Defense full of older vets...who probbably get gassed a little sooner than the young guns.

A offense where Recievers are fired up and making plays and balls dont get fumbled and we'd be right back in this...as favorites...thats not something a superstar Receiver is gonna bring to the table thats just something that you either wake up on sunday with or dont..

let it play out guys, and represent the red, blue, and silver proud... one and done or not.. I have high hopes for this team for atleast the next 5-6 seasons.

I just wish we had a better sense of when CJ will be on the field again. I really think that if healthy, he could be key to this offense down the stretch.

But then again, I wouldn't have blamed them for taking it real safe with him and putting him on the IR. Obviously, they won't be doing that as they would not have released Gabriel if Jackson were to miss the rest of the season including postseason.

Hammys and groins are a bytch, and although a lot of posters on this board might not take that type of injury seriously (probably b/c they've never played sports), they are a lot scarier than broken bones and such. Those are much more tangible, once they heal they heal, and you can move on with confidence. That's not really the case with a hamstring.

At this point, we've posted the numbers of rookie wideouts so many times, it's just not arguable: you can't expect much from a rookie wide receiver, no matter his talent. Period.

yeah you speak truth. Ive played TE since High School and Ive pulled my groin.... It defentaly Limits your role as a receiving threat.. 5 weeks later when your just jogging you def still feel it. Never had Hammy problems but I could imagine... its such a big muscle it probabbly kills. What is a WR without legs anyway?

The NFL is full of great WR's who had crummy rookie seasons. Generally it's year 3 that WR's break out.

Sure there are the occasional rookie WR phenoms but it's rare.

I think if Chad can get healthy and do the work to get on the same page as Brady & BB then he could be a stud down teh road.

Generalizing is not all that helpful. Hating a guy because he was a Florida WR is silly. He played for different coaches, in different systems, than the plays you "hate." Hating for this reason is silly. Try to keep an open mind.

Ok fine you dragged it out me, i will once again post why you never spend a high draft pick on a Florida WR, or an SEC WR for that matter. (Tory Holt and a few others being the exceptions).

I know people say this is not a Spurrier Florida WR so you cant compare him to the Jaquez Greens and Ike Hillards of the past.

But this is wrong, the SEC is a RB league, more than any other conf. including the Big10 and Big12. The defences are built and the talent and scholarships are gven out to run stoppers. Even the CBs in the SEC are run stopping corners more than coverage guys. In Florida especially they gather speed guys who flourish in this environment, even to this day. You can not get an accurate read on these WRS and their skills are never tested, or developed. Since they can be successfull in the SEC, the need to work on complex routes and reads is not there, their talent alone will do. Also the coaches in this league do not have the expertise for the devlopment, as the best WR and passing offensive coaches do not coach here. There are reasons why Florida WRs hammys and groins and calfs seem to be made of paper mache, it is because they are speed guys who need to re-train their bodies to play in the NFL. And they always break down.

It is very risky picking a WR out of this envirnoment, is it all coincidence that all Florida WRs have the same career. Evem after Spurrier left. Is it all coincidence??? Gaffney and caldwel were very highly touted coming out of Florida, they both had the same types of injury plagued careers, with flashes of good things, but never enough consistancy. That in a nut sell is a Florida WR career. I knew Jacksons stats this year included games on the injured list, before this season began.

Listen you want to pick a RB out of the SEC or TE or Olineman, I say I am all for it, but never a WR (and QB for that matter, Payton being the exception) especially from Florida more than the other schools. He was a 2nd rd pick, never go above 5 for a Florida WR.

Tell me you have not seen Chad's Career about 5 times before, this is not deja vu. This is not coincidence, this is a sure bet.

I agree. Look at Steve Smith's, Chad Johnson's, Santana Moss', Reggie Wayne's, Donald Driver's, and other top WRs rookie seasons. Some of them were drafted around the same position Jackson was drafted and have similiar rookie numbers.

The one thing that gives me hope about Jackson is when he gets the ball, he does make some big plays. I just don't know if he is a stretch the field type of WR. He seems better suited to get the short to intermediate passes and get a lot of YAC.

The dire warning only applies to the one laddy, but I'd have to say Caldwell has earned his coin this season, Gaffney has potential, and Kight, just up from the Practice Squad has been an inexpensive experiment - it's not that the SEC WR argument is wrong, it's just that in a fruit loop, cap spending year by most teams, the Pats went lowball and decided to see what they could accomplish as coaches and teachers...it is what it is. Heck, Jackson's shown the potential crawling into the end zone, injuries are such a bummer when you need on-field reps.

Aha...we may also have seriously scouted those '02 WRs.

Branch was the 11th WR chosen by the end of round two. A sparkling 8 WRs were selected in that round. Gaffney, Reche, and Andre Davis all before Branch. Exactly which one of those 8 was going to slide to our pick -- and how did we rank them? And yes, it's conceivable that Branch wasn't the highest rated of the bunch (no complaints here ).

Jackson -- Pats did some serious homework on this guy. Spent some time with him here and on campus. Highly impressed with Meyer's passing offense too. Felt Jackson was exposed to some NFL-like similarities such as multiple formations and blitz situations, etc. He'll produce when healthy.

Some fans still need to learn not to evaluate injured players...

You can't judge a player from the college they attended, good or bad. Especially since Jackson also had to learn Meyer's system, it's just not comparable.

Not to mention, Caldwell has proven himself this season, Gaffney has always been a pretty solid receiver as well. I still think we have some talent at wide receiver, it just hasn't come together for some reason.

Again, Brady sucks against the Dolphins and everyone is reacting to that. He'll pick apart the Texans this week and everyone will be back on his bandwagon. That's the NFL, it's up and down, I guess we as Pats fan just expect perfection week in and week out.

Darrell Jackson is one of the best receivers in the league every year.

The bottom line is, we won't be able to make any kind of judgement on CJ until next season. Period. Good or bad. Till then, we might as well be optimistic and bank on him filling his potential.

In the meanwhile, let's hope he gets healthy ASAP b/c we could really, really use his speed at the very least.

Reiss said there is no update on Chad Jackson or whether he is healthy enough to practice/play, though he did reiterate optimism that he would contribute this year, saying he would've been IRed other wise.
