Peter King has a couple of interesting snipets about the cap. In assessing the Eagles ability to remain well under with all their signings he states that they are on an adjusted cap of $125M due to reallocation of unused 2009 cap space. Clayton reported a week before the CBA was finalized that a move to roll $163M in unused cap forward from 2009 had been discussed but eventually dropped. Maybe it wasn't. Miguel needs to put out an SOS to AdamJT13 to find out what the deal is...I recall we had a couple of million left at the end of 2009.

Also some touching anecdotes about Kraft and the Wilforks and the importance of love.

One other note: Kraft does not wear rings or most other jewelry -- except for one thing. He wears a silver circular pendant with a photo of he and his wife on their wedding day and the words "Cherish Love'' engraved on the back. It was a gift from the Wilforks when they learned Myra Kraft had cancer.

"Mr. Kraft always liked it,'' said Bianca Wilfork. "When he told us Myra was sick last year, we called our jeweler and had it made. It had a lot of significance, because he always told us, 'Always keep what's important close to you.' You can have a million dollars, but if you don't have love, you're broke.''

And the skinny on the Nnamdi saga and what the JETS were limited to offering based on not being able to top Revis, and what it cost them to play the waiting game.

Philadelphia Eagles can redo*contracts for Michael Vick,*DeSean*Jackson and still be under NFL cap - Peter King - SI.com

"Randy Moss Kraft"

For all the crap people talk about Randy, he is a very good (albiet moody) person and I will always see him as a Patriot.

Oh, wow. That was really touching stories from Wilfork and Moss. So this throws a wrench in the story of him declining to a 1 year deal we apparently gave him this season.

Good tidbits.

Re: Moss, it might've been King who reported it - but Kraft and Moss were talking about Randy retiring as a Patriot when BB pulled the trigger on an Ochocinco deal, thus negating the need for Moss.

Good article form King. I told a poster on here yesterday that there was no way Aso took less money to go to Philly and he didn't buy it. The Jets would never offer Aso more than what Revis was making.

Oh, that part made me flat out tear up. I can believe this of Randy...he has a good heart. I sincerely wish he would have stayed here. The dude's heart is clearly in the right place.

Moss was offered an one year deal but he wanted more than one year and that is where the talks broke down.

Must every thread become an homage to what Randy could have been...

Like Bill says, he is what he is...and that is a package deal where the sweet bow and gorgeous wrapping paper hides a dangerous toy you're not sure you want your kid playing with because you'll have to quit work and watch him like a hawk when he does...

Not a believable story. Kraft doesn't make those decisions especially with someone like Moss.

The mere mention of his name gets 'em all riled up.

That is what made the whole ball washing rhetoric by Revis about Asi so ludicrous, "Nnamdi Asomugha is the best CB in the league".. no one got a nicer bath and Darelle Revis..

Any time a team sends out players to urge a player to come back during training camp has a lot of screws loose, this will somehow come back to bite them in the azz someday.

If Mangold holds out, will he wait for a knock on his door by Jets Player or how about Sanchize?? Dumb move.

Once Moss was traded mid-season last year (a rarity that tells you just how bad his attitude was) there was NO contract offer from the Patriots.
None!

Love Vince and Bianca Wilfork. Such quality people.

Decisions? No. But they were having an informal conversation at their house, so it's rather conceivable it came up.

Nobody reported that. Chris Carter claimed that the Patriots had offered Moss a one year deal but then they signed Ocho to a reported deal to be restructured into a two or three year deal and Randy based on that and the lack of interest in him beyond a one year deal elsewhere decided to retire.

And it would not be conceivable - in fact it would be a real stretch not to mention thoroughly crass - to assume when Moss visited Kraft's home while the family was sitting shiva for Myra they casually discussed a contract...

Sorry, it was Rap, not King:

BostonHerald.com - Blogs: Rap Sheet» Blog Archive » Looks like a case of a lot of bad timing for the now-retired Randy Moss and the Eagles

As far as the Patriots situation, Moss was in town recently following Myra Kraft’s passing. I’m also told he went to team owner Robert Kraft’s home to pay his respects.

While there had been a bit of friction between the two given Moss’ behavior at a team charity event last preseason, the fences appeared mended between Kraft and the receiver. At one point, there was some discussion between the two of Moss finishing his career as a Patriot. Before that got to the serious stage, however, Bill Belichick had made the trade for Chad Ochocinco. In other words, case closed.

It's not crass or inconceivable - it's a private visit to Kraft's house to pay his respects. During the course of his time there, it's likely they spoke about things other than her passing.

And you can doubt the source if you wish, given Rapoport has swung and missed plenty of times, but note that Rap reported this 5 days ago that Moss was at Kraft's house, and King is only reporting it now. Rap had that much right, and he had it right almost a week ago.

If true, I think Rappoport needs to learn some boundaries,

"The fences appeared mended between Kraft and the receiver. At one point, there was some discussion between the two of Moss finishing his career as a Patriot."

Was this reported from the ceremony? Private ceremonies should be off limits for the media. Private conversations, especially.

Was Rappoport with Kraft and Moss during this conversation?
If not, then how does he know what was said?

Did Moss relay the story? If he did, that along with signing his name Randy Moss Kraft makes it feel like he went there looking for a job. Now that would be crass.

No - per Rap's report, it was not at the ceremony. It was, as King confirmed, a private visit that Moss made to Kraft's house to pay his respects.

I don't think Moss went there for a job, at all. I think you'd be reading way too much into this.

Everything points to Moss' appreciation to the Kraft family and desire to pay respects to Myra as being 100% genuine and it's unfair to assert otherwise.

Probably what happened was during his time there, Kraft made some comment in passing about how it'd be great to see Moss end his career a Patriot. Moss, as we know, would probably be happy to do just that. Honestly, maybe it was just Kraft being polite, probably he was genuinely touched by Moss coming up there to pay his respects.

Moss' camp, or someone from Moss' camp, probably relayed this story to Rap.

FWIW, I think it could have happened, but I don't think they got down to numbers or what not.

I concur. Rap characterized it as very informal conversations, and I think it would have to be just that.

Re: MMQB - interesting cap snipets, heartwarming Kraft anecdotes, why JETS lost Nnam

And if it happened at all it could well be along the lines of the always family theme in that Kraft had hoped Randy would retire as a Patriot and maybe still could on one of those one day deals...which are not the same as being offered an actual contract to play...
