Detroit Lions RB Mikel Leshoure was carted off the practice field today. Early reports are that he has torn his achilles and will go on season-ending IR.

That's the ninth player to have blown out their achilles since training camps opened up two weeks ago.

With this in mind, would Detroit consider talking to the Patriots about one of their running backs? Possibly, but I think an available free agent like Ricky Williams is more likely - although whatever RB the Pats do end up cutting could draw interest from the Lions in a few weeks.

And another draft prospect that I absolutely hate can't show everybody that I'm right...
(Last one was Sergio Kindle)

lol...i kind of feel bad for the lions. the just can't catch a ******* break(or tear :p).

ouch!!! that is a year long recovery, it is usually a freak injury, I watched a kid snap his playing pick-up b-ball, nobody even around him, he just dropped like a stone (of course we made fun of him and called him a sissy)

I just posted something similar in the draft forum! The decision to draft Vereen ahead of LeShoure was the subject of endless arguments, and I was looking forward to seeing Vereen prevail on the field, not in the trainer's room. :(

Best wishes to LeShoure, that's a terrible way to start your career.

As far as we know Vareen is still walking. And so much for the why double dip critics... Redundancy has it's perks.

I feel bad for him, I kinda liked watching him in college. Still remember the Northwestern game at Wrigley Field where he ran for 330 yards. Hope he will be able to fully recover.

I'd give 'em Morris for a 7 in 2012.

What a bummer for the young fella....Best of luck to his recovery.

Wow, those kinds of injuries suck. Atleast he got his payday, I always feel terrible when this kind of stuff happens to a college junior or senior.

A running back popping the achilles is not a good sign for longevity. I wish the kid all the luck in the world with his recovery, and I hope he can make a complete comeback.

Ricky Williams signed a 2 year deal with the Ravens

Nasty injury! Bloody painful!

Feel sorry for him!

beyond idiotic to think its a certainty he would have gotten hurt here too. Just like Amukamara wouldn't be doing the same drill against the same player in our camp.

Not saying he would've. Just saying it'll be at least another year before he shows that he's no good.

Ouch. Mikel Leshoure is made of glass...

I did compare him to Maroney prior to the draft:eek:

Looks like they have more than one similarity then. It's too bad a kid gets hurt like that to start his career but it has happened to the Pats several times and usually the player's development suffers a lot because of it. The question for the Lions really, is this a one time deal, or is the kid going to continue to get nicked or hurt on an annual basis.

I guess I now know why Bill chose Vereen ahead of Leshoure.
