Why not trade Tate to Arizona or San Fran???

Don't count your depth before it hatches. We're a Branch injury away from Tate fighting for a top-3 WR spot.

I think Tate makes this team. And either Edelman/Price get cut, probably Julian.

Tate's best contribution is prb as a return man. SF has Ted Ginn JR, and ARI has LaRod Stephens-Howling, so neither team makes much sense.

Not to mention Brandon Tate isn't as bad as everyone thinks he is. In 2007 Donte Stallworth was the #3 guy behind Moss and Welker and had 46 catches for 697 yards and 3 TD's. Now you have more weapons with the TE's in the mix. Tate is not gonna be 1,000 Yard WR in this offense, nor do we need him to be.

Tate's Rookie year was wiped out, last year was his first year he played and how many good WR's don't break out until year #3? Also at least he stayed on the field for 16 games last year, Edelman and Branch have a record of not being able to stay healthy. Don't forget Tate is a bigger WR @ 6'1 195 lbs with very good speed.

This is like people on the draft forum doing mock drafts with trades, X10. I guess they assume other teams are just willing to trade to whatever the Patriots want to do.

Has SF shown any interest in Tate? If so, how does the OP know this? Link, or does the OP have a insider in the SF front office? How does the OP know that BB is wanting to trade Tate?

I need to know this before I can take this proposed trade seriously.

Lot of hate for Tate on this board. I don't really understand why. Don't be so quick to beat the guy up, considering last year was his rookie year. Let's see what he does, I'd hate to see him get cut because he has so much potential. Let's not forget Branch isn't the most durable guy out there.

this is like 90% of all proposed fantasy football trades.

1.) Last year wasn't Tate's rookie year

2.) Analysis that isn't favorable is not the same thing as hate

3.) Troy Brown apparently has "hate" for Tate, because he has questioned Tate, just as many here have

why would we want to get rid of Edelman??? He's even better, more versatile and more valuable than Tate.

i think he's a good KR but i would not be shocked if he was cut BB does not have good luck with 3rd round picks

No one wants him.

It even doesn't matter anyway.

Ochocinco is a one year stop-gap. Tate will kept around to see if he can eventually replace Branch. The Pats will sign UFA Larry Fitzgerald after this season to replace Ocho. :rocker:

its going to be hard for Belichick to cut any of the WRs he has right now. Welker, Branch and Ochocinco are starters, Price is 1a inevitable backup. Tate, Edelman and even Slater all have key roles.\

Its guys like Ridley, Vereen, Faulk and Morris who arent huge contributors, i think Ridley takes Morris spot, Faulk stay on the PUP until week 6 then they can see if they can fit him in. Vereen's Injury may save Morris, but probably not.

Gronkowski and Hernendez will be in there with Smith, while we stash another TE on the practice squad and keep Crumpler on speed dial if he doesn't sign somewhere else.

This all sounds pretty realistic.

I think Tate has some value at the WR position.

Thats the difference between Tate and Aiken. Aiken sucked as a WR, but was an all world ST player like Tate. With this many good players and so few open roster spots, the more hats you can wear, the more value you have.

Isnt Fitzgerald a free agent next year.Make a play for him next year.

He ll probably be tagged though. Cards won't let him just walk.

I don't necessarly see Tate being traded or cut. He is still the best deep threat on the team.

However, KR is agruably his strength. The kickoff rule change (now from 35 yard line) reduces the importance of KRs in general and means that players like Tate have a bit less vlaue than they did last year.

I think this is a huge point. Last year, Tate returned 41 kickoffs. This year that number's likely to be cut in half. So we're talking about 1.3 kick returns per game.

Meanwhile the Patriots punted 58 times last year, and kicked off 99 times. That translates to 9.8 plays per game for the gunners.

Yet we have people arguing that Tate is safe because he's the best kick returner, but Slater's on the chopping block because he's only the best gunner?

A 5th round Pick or a 6th round pick is quite generous for a round 2 selection that just doesn't fit into our system.
What do you mean doesn't fit out system? What is our system that a WR who runs intermediate and deep routes doesn't fit it?

Why is it that when there is a player someone thinks isn't worth keeping on our team, they assume the other 31 one teams are so hot for the guy, we can just pick a team and trade with them?

If you wouldn't give another team a fifth round pick for Tate, why think that others will?

Next year we have Edelman, Tate and Price under contract. We often keep six WRs, with one a ST guy. Cut Slater, keep Tate.

Fitzgerald has a "no franchise tag" clause in his contract, assuming he doesnt sign a new deal with them prior to next season we definitely have a shot at him.
