or whomever? he would never pass through waivers and we could get back our late round picks we gave up for ocho... Tate will be odd man out why not make the trade and get late picks? I'd hate to see him a NYJ

It seems like we will carry some extra linemen this year and another WR makes little sense on our 53 w/ 3 QBS and a ST Gunner, P,K, Mallett.

That is 4 slots by itself

there are sooooo many teams that need to fill cap space they would jump @ this offer

If it is indeed an absolute fact that he is going to be cut, then why would they or any other team give up anything for him? SF already has Michael Crabtree and Braylon Edwards; it's not as if they're desperate for a receiver. If Tate is as bad as some here are proclaiming him to be then I don't know if he's an upgrade over Chansi Stuckey or Early Doucet in Arizona.

He's still our best KR until proven otherwise. The guys that would most likely replace him are Price and Vereen for that role. Reports say Price has really struggled in the return game thus far and Vereen is injured / unknown.. I see no reason to ditch Tate so easily. Especially with an older, injury prone Branch. Can we play a few preseason games before we start suggesting to trade players? These roster battles tend to work themselves out.

Just a random guess, but probably because no one would give anything for him? Maybe a bag of footballs or a tackle dummy.

A 5th round Pick or a 6th round pick is quite generous for a round 2 selection that just doesn't fit into our system. Who is to say he would not succeed elsewhere like TB or whoever? A round 2 pick is $$$ TB has to fill lots of cap space upon other teams. He is wqorth a shot for such a low value pick given to us.

I will wait through pre-season. I just do not foresee us carrying all of our WR's
We will surely carry more DL and LB's this year which works against Tate. I like Tate for his reverse plays and kickoff returns. How will he crack our 53 guys? I just do not see it.

someone called him a 1 trick pony and that is what he is

You don't trade for the sake of trading.

Having depth never hurts.

When you propose a trade is has to be based on the needs of the other team..not based on who you think could use him.

He did a good job returning punts, also injuries sometimes create slots... your suggestion may be premature.

i agree.... but when he is claimed on waivers and we get nothing for it. he would NEVER pass through waivers unclaimed:eek:

he will only be depth for TC/Pre-season... I am saying after TC/Pre-season we should do this.\\\

I very much do love depth. I agree it is premature. I like to look beyond the present a a great deal as ya'll can tell

Chad Jackson 2.0
Taylor Price , the next.

Why would we care if he doesn't pass through waivers if cut? Waiver claim or not somebody's going to pick him up.

Is there any basis for the speculation? Or is this simply the latest iteration of "cut/trade <insert rookie here>" because he didn't set the world on fire his first year in the league?

why this hate for Tate?
next year Ocho,Welker and Branch will be FA and we cut guys with one/two year?:bricks:

ppl talked about depth... i was saying after TC and Pre we can trade him for late rounder(s) Teams that don't get 1st claim b/c of the rule would benefit by a trade to acquire him:cool:

It isn't about hating on Tate, it is about liking the other guys better and knowing somebody probably will have to go

Then I'd think Tampa Bay, Seattle, Indy, Baltimore or Kansas City would be more logical trade partners than Arizona or San Francisco, as they'd stand to lose in the waiver process and may wish to pick up someone like Tate for depth.

I can't see him being cut.

I don't see how our best KR and one of the best in the league and a good depth guy as a WR will get cut while someone like Slater stays on the team. I'm sure someone else can step up as a gunner for this team. What else is Slater good for?

While I think the OP is dramatically overestimating Tate's trade value, it's true that there's always a flurry toward the end of camp of teams trying to turn their #54 and #55 guys into late picks. The Pats have done that sucessfully a number of times -- Russ Hochstein, LeKevin Smith, maybe Billy Yates? And in the other direction, didn't they give up a last-minute pick for Tracy White last year?
