Filed to ESPN: Former Jets DE Shaun Ellis and the Patriots reached agreement on a one-year deal, pending the player's physical.

Makes sense.

Haynesworth basically replaces Seymour, but NE still needed somebody to replace Warren. Ellis along with the Pats DL depth, should be able to do that.

Interesting move. Will be interesting to see what he has left and how BB coaxes that from him.

It's a good signing in that Ellis can also spell Albert and Vince when we are in the 4-3 on Running Downs as well as any down we are in 3-4.

Great depth on the D-Line with Albert, Vince, Wright, Ellis and a combination of the young guys

This is a good move, makes for a real dog fight along the defensive line.

If Ellis makes the team, he will be invaluable for gameplanning against the Jets and Rexy..

I thought Ellis played very well against the Pats last year. A lot of pressure in two games, and commanding a double team in the third game to open up lanes for someone else. Based on that - can't say I saw all that much else of him last year - this appears to be a very good addition for the Pats. Also, he looks like somebody that could be productive in either a 3-4 or a 4-3.

I'll say! How many positions do you think these 12 guys are battling for?

Brace
Cohen
Deaderick
Ellis
Haynesworth
Love
Pryor
Richard
Weston
Wilfork
Williams
Wright

I'm not expecting a lot out of him and am actually dissapointed to have to grab a player from the Jester's scrap heap to get the help BB thinks we need.

Really kind of a "meh" to me.

Looks like Brace is a goner if Ellis still has a good year left in him.

I've always like Ellis. Interesting note: I think Ellis was the player selected with the 1st round pick that the Patriots gave up for hiring BB.

I may be wrong about that but that is how I recall it.

Can he stop the run? :p

Why do you say that? The Pats still need depth on the D-line. Adding Ellis doesn't change that. Deaderick hasn't proved himself to be better than anyone.

You are correct. This was mentioned when Ellis first came in for a visit.

This is a good move. Haynesworth is not exactly the star of camp so far and
Ellis brings familiarity of the Jets.

The Jets get told FU once more.

The curse of Vernon Gholston strikes again!

Patriots agreed to terms with DE Shaun Ellis, formerly of the Jets.

Offered the veteran's minimum by the Jets, it's unclear if Ellis' Patriots contract includes any guaranteed money. Ellis had clearly lost a step last season, but as evidenced by his monster playoff performance against the team he is now joining, he can still be a productive player. He's an excellent depth signing for what should be an improved Patriots' defensive line.

Love this signing! Ellis absolutely DESTROYED us and our O-Line in that Divisional Game. 1 year deal, he has plenty left in the tank!

I agree DaBruinz, too early for anyone to give up on Brace, he's showed some flashes and he provides great depth.
