Known enemy Bernard Pollard signs with Baltimore

If I were a Steelers fan, I'd be a little worried about this signing.

Pats should of signed him. Hope pats don't see the ravens in the playoffs.

Pollard is very not good....

OT: Looks like many reports state that Derrick Mason will sign with the NYJ as long as he passes the basic physical tomorrow. That now gives them a WR core that is quite experienced:

--S.Holmes #1

--Plaxico Burress #2

--Derrick Mason #3

(also still have J.Cotchery) #4

also RR said today that they'd be more than happy to bring back Braylon Edwards, as long as he agreed on the price (which he apparently doesn't want, at least so far up to now)

I know many will downplay the signing of D.Mason, just as they did with Burress, but in my opinion it's not a bad signing, as he does provide experience/depth + can act as a possession WR

I guess all of the reports about Sanchez supposedly "having no one to throw to" in the offseason didn't exactly go to plan..

And I thought we had Dad's Army (ages for 2011) with Welker (30), Branch (32), Ochocinco (33). Naturally the Jets had to outdo the Patriots with Holmes (27), Cotchery (29), Burress (35) and Mason (37).

Mason could potentially be a good signing for the Jets. It's a downgrade from Edwards play making ability one would think.

I love Plax, but a 34 year old receiver two years out of jail and the Bret Farve of receivers is probably the least frightening #2/#3 wideouts ever. I'm not sure how your scared of going up against Plax / Mason.

Hell no.

Mucking foron almost took out Cassel in Chiefs TC the same way he took out Brady.

lol it was just a football play, like kimo on carson palmer

i'm surprised the guy keeps bouncing around year to year, i wanted sd to draft him, he's got a motor, and isn't bad at his position

Mason is a guy who I thought would've been a nice, cheap fit for the Pats offense prior to the Ochocinco trade. He's still a good possession receiver and his presence in the WR core helps the Jets unfortunately.

How old is Mason? I heard back in the day Joe Namath was trying to get the Jets to sign him when he was QB.

?? Not scared or particularly 'worried' about anyone---just saying that so many predicted/assumed that Sanchez would have Patrick Turner and Jeremy Kerley to throw to, lol. They also tried to spin some other no-names in there to make themselves feel better in the off-season.

Guess that was just another 'assumption' that was about as right as them being one of the worst teams up against the cap...and how they'd be in 'cap hell' etc.

As we all know, you can't be worried about the other 31 teams, but if you don't see Sanchez having more options than were predicted, you're kidding yourself.

Yes, Mason is obviously getting up there in yrs, but he does not provide the diva presence and drama that guys like Moss/T.O. etc provided at that comparable older age. He has proven himself as a viable possession WR. Hell, he seemed to do alright with Baltimore, and I don't remember anyone bringing up his age then. 2010 playoff loss in January:

Receiving Leaders
Baltimore REC YDS AVG TD
A. Boldin 64 837 13.1 7
D. Mason 61 802 13.1 7

Or how about as recently as October of last yr, when we barely escaped with an overtime win?? He absolutely torched the Patriot defense, and was the game leader as a WR:

D. Mason 8 (rec) 100 (yds) 12.5 (ave) 20 (long) 10 (total targets)

I Don't remember anyone bringing up his being 'old' then??

Man, I wish that Mason had come here when the Pats went after him as a free agent in 2005. He had the perfect skill set to play in this offense. Excellent route runner, smart, clutch, no ego, plays hard all the time. Just the perfect type of WR for this offense. It's a shame we never got to see him play with Tom Brady.

Mason's still a good WR. Don't want to play him twice this year. He worries me more than Plaxico does.

Exactly. It's not the combo of Holmes/Burress that potentially 'worries' me, it's the added depth of Holmes/Mason/Burress/Cotchery. Throw in Dustin Keller, a viable offensive line, a viable ground game, and it's getting more and more likely that Sanchez will have a lot more weapons than most thought.

Even though I definitely agree that he's a lousy QB, all he really has to do is manage the game to a certain extent. I believe that Sanchez is at a crossroads of sorts..we all know how lousy of a QB he is fundamentally, but when you reign him in a bit + offer a majority of ground/pound + give him some very viable and reputable WR's, he may continue to surprise some of us who are always waiting for that next mistake. (although I still think there will be plenty of those to a certain extent)

Hopefully the secondary and pressure will get to him more this yr finally.

What was the rumor? That his wife did not like the area or something?

No, it wasn't "just a football play."

It was deliberate intent to injure, just as Kimo's hit on Palmer was also intent to injure.

In both cases, a defender intentionally dove at/below the knees of a stationary QB
who was not attempting to escape the pocket. Pollard & Von Oelhoffen should've both
been assesed a 15-yrd Unsportsmanlike Conduct penalty.

Please know the rules before you "lol" next time, m'kay?
