Yup, the 4-3 transition is becoming more and more obvious.

Simply nowhere for him to play in the base D, but a very interesting sub package inside rusher. Thats been really his biggest (only) strength in the NFL, he is a small, quick, effective pass rusher from the DT position. 32 years old concerns me, but we aren't exactly loaded with depth at inside pass rushers for the sub package. Haynesworth, Wright, and JAG city. (I don't expect Wilfork to play an awful lot in sub packages)

Re: Pats hosting Raheem Brock on Wednesday

Thread prediction for tomorrow: Eagles sign Raheem Brock.

Re: Pats hosting Raheem Brock on Wednesday

9 sacks and 38 total pressures in his first year away from the Colts. I like it.

Re: Pats hosting Raheem Brock on Wednesday

Cool....I talked about him being a nice cheap pass rush option.

I didn't know his stats were that good away from Indy. Was he a cap casualty there?

Man, we're gonna be picking up all the punk arses....

[edit]DUI Arrest
On the morning of November 13, 2010, Brock was pulled over after being observed driving 85-90*mph in a 60*mph zone. A preliminary breath test indicated a blood alcohol concentration of .133; the legal limit in Washington is .08. Later breath tests at the University of Washington Police Department measured Brock's BAC at .115 and .111.[1]
[edit]Other Arrests
On June 16, 2011, Brock was arrested for walking out on a $27 bar tab. [2]

I would be thrilled with the pick up. In seven out of his last eight years, he played in all sixteen games plus playoffs.

He was arrested in June for skipping out on a $27 bill and scuffling with police, so I am sure Danny S can write another article about all the thugs BB signs now.

I think he was just a free agent. He had his best season rushing the passer last year, 9 sacks in the regular season and another 1.5 in the postseason.

However both he and Matt Roth are getting their first visits of free agency, with us.

Re: Pats hosting Raheem Brock on Wednesday

I think Brock is very interesting, more so than Harris, looking like 4-3 based with 3-4 mixed in this year. Interesting season, can't wait to see the first preseason game. Do we carry 8 DL now?

Re: Pats hosting Raheem Brock on Wednesday

If the Pats got Raheem Brock, I would be so stoked for the season. Can you imagine a 6'4", 274 LB, DE, who had 9 sacks surrounded by that Seattle defense, and how he'd do with Wilfolk, Hayneworth, and the rest?

I also have a good feeling about Eric Moore and all the good pub he's getting early. I mean he only played in 3 games last year, but he had 2 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, and 14 tackles. Add him to the mix with this improve D Line. He's a binky of mine. I admit it.

If they sign Raheeem Brock, I'm ready for the season, save for maybe one more offensive lineman. Let's get it on. For the record my other defensive binky is Sergio Brown, but I digress.

I think get Roth signed is more important, but Brock can fill a role.

How is Roth more important. Brock is the better pass rusher.

Re: Pats hosting Raheem Brock on Wednesday

I was on the seahawks board and it seemed they unanimously wanted him back. He wanted a multiple year deal and that seemed to be the reason for his release.

Re: Pats hosting Raheem Brock on Wednesday

Brock would be a cheaper alternative to Osi.. it fills a need without paying through the nose. Hes a couple years older than Osi and probably wont duplicate his 9 sack from last year but he can bring pressure, its certainly an upgrade

The more this goes on, with the Patriots and Colts looking at the same kinds of d-linemen and the Pats shedding 3-4 types, the less that "base D" looks like the base....

On the other hand, bringing in Roth for a look makes it seem like the 3-4 may not be completely abandoned. Time will tell us all, I guess.

I think the pool of linebackers out there is so diluted...it makes creating a good 3-4 defense more difficult to assemble.

True, but IMO Roth is a lot closer to a 4-3 DE than Ninkovich is. Ninko's strength is his versatility for the OLB position, including cover ability.

Or maybe BB has just given up on the idea of a base defense at all. Like the old kung fu films where the fighter learns every school of fighting but then evolves beyond them all to a freeform "no school." Defense flows like water, floats like cloud.

Or somethin'. :confused2:
