Reiss:

Patriots announce the signings of second-round draft picks Ras-I Dowling and Shane Vereen.

Just Solder now!

Good to see. Hope the log jam with the first rd picks and the guarenteed money is resolved soon.

Agreed. I don't think they want to set a bad precident for future signings (even if the $$$ are comparable or lower).

Good news.. the more reps they get, the better off they are.

Great news! Just one left.

Solder seriously needs to sign now!!!

I don't really understand what the holdup is, JJ Watts (taken 2 slots ahead) has already signed. Can't his deal really be that different from what Solder is expecting.

Additionally, I don't understand why the Pats are dragging their feet? Even if Solder wants a guaranteed deal (a la Adrian Clayborn) why wouldn't the Pats just give it to him? What was the last first round pick the Pats let go before the rookie deal expired??? Based on our track record, the rookie deal will be guaranteed either way, whether it is stated as such or not.

21st pick in the 2006 nfl draft Laurence Maroney

Set a precident with full guarantee and proven vet players can argue they deserve such even more. Result = MLB.

We got a pick for him! And any money that was guaranteed went to the Broncos, correct?

/Contracts rejected by the league.

I think these 2 are terrific fits for the Patriots, looking forward to hearing camp reports!

I agree, I'm pretty excited about these guys and about hearing camp reports.

Did I ever tell you guys my exciting solder story?

Dowling will need the reps, especially after missing most of last year. That said, I'm especially excited to see what Vereen can bring to the team. Let's hope that Solder signs soon. It's going to be very difficult to make up the lost time.

So Dowling will go straight to being a nickel CB?Safety? He wont get a chance to compete at CB?

What is this post responding to?

I am saying it because everyone talks about him being a nickel CB for us or a safety.

He'll be lucky if hes the nickle CB as a rookie. This isn't last year where pretty much no one was staring in front of McCourty. He's gotta beat out all but one of McCourty, Bodden, Arrington, Butler, and Wilhite. I could see him beating out one or two of those guys immediately, but none of Arrington, Bodden or McCourty (unless Bodden doesn't come back well).

I strongly doubt they have any intention of turning him into a safety.
