Gabriel Released

Maybe Jackson is ready to play and make a Impact!
or else this is a mistake imo

I wonder if the Raiders will claim Gabriel on waivers.

What do you people think, BB just woke up today and said "we have enough receivers let's cut one"? Obviously we can say it was a mistake to trade for him but none of us has an idea as to why he was released. What's that saying? 'Tis better to be thought a fool, then to open your mouth and remove all doubt. ...'

I honestly don't understand why this idea that Gabriel was benched just for the fumble vs. the Jets still persists.

It's just an absurd notion, and is easily recognizable as the utter stupidity it is when subjected to the slightest scrutiny.

Faulk's had a fumbling problem for years, and never got benched. Dillon's had some really crushing fumbles, and never got benched. Ben Watson's fumbled a bunch of late, and never got benched.

Sorry, but players don't get benched for one fumble. It doesn't happen.

There's been something else going on with Gabriel. It probably started well before the Jets game. Heck, it could have started as early as the Broncos game in which he didn't come on until the 4th quarter.

We don't know. It will be a while before we do. So if we can only speculate, at least let's try to speculate intelligently.

Speculation:
I think that Doug did not buy into the work ethic needed to play on the team. Notice how in every WEEI Monday AM interview Tom emphasizes how hard Reche is working and then he'll say how hard the receivers are working. Maybe Doug had a Donald Hayes style comprehension problem and just could not grasp the WR options like blitz adjustments that this offense requires. Maybe Doug was a distraction by sulking or was openly voicing dissention against the coaches or BB's style.

The true answer is not meant for man to know.

You stole my thunder. If this was all about a fumble vs. the Jets, I would have thought Faulk would have been long gone with his fumble history. Gabriel was in the doghouse for a lot more than a fumble.

Chris

He appears to be angry at this release, and quite frankly, I am of the opinion that he wasnt treated fairly..but not knowing all the circumstances, who am I to say...
Exactly. You don't know all of the circumstances. Let's just admit we don't, and won't. If you want to draw the conclusion that he was treated "unfairly" without fully knowing what you're talking about, go ahead.

BB/Pioli's record as traders has taken another blow. After a

good trade for Corey Dillon, they traded for Duane Starks, Andre

Davis, and Doug Gabriel.

Look at the bright side: If they hit on all of their trades, then nobody will ever trade with them.

wow

I wonder if we will ever find out the real reason

I think now we will hear from Doug Gabriel's side of the story. I remember Tomase asked him why he was benched in the 2nd half of the Jets game and he said "Not talking this week, sometime I'll talk to you" Gotta think this has been going on for a while now, lets hope Chad Jackson comes back, hes a huge key to give us some speed on offense, which we clearly have none at this point.

That's a good point, although we hope they try to make every deal a good one. Some of the other NBA teams' front office guys came out and said they wouldn't deal with the Celtics any more back in the 80s because of what Red had done to them over the years. Good old Red.

wow

I wonder if we will ever find out the real reason

Yea he wasn`t good enough.
If you went to the games you`d see he couldnt get open.
In fact none of them could.
I thought Jackson could seperate pretty good
but injuries hurt his speed.

They're also willing to cut their losses too. Some teams just keep deadweight so their "record as traders" looks good. Same with draft picks.

Thats right this team is not afraid to admit thier mistakes.

Look, I may sound whiny but wow! I love this team and drink the Kool-Aid too, but someone shoud sooner or later start splainin'. With this below average receiving core, how can you release someone with Gabriel's skills?

Hope this is a sign that Chad Jackson is getting healthy. I suspect Jabar Gaffney picked up the offense faster, and has been more dependable, than Gabriel. One thing I really don't understand is why we would release him now - why not wait til the off-season and deal him for...even a 7th. Oh well.

It is interesting that they just cut Gabriel and didn't even deactivate him on game days.

Plus he was involved in 17% of the plays vs miami.

That's what I like...always look for the bright side...

It tells you how overrated and bad this guy was to get released by the Patriots, considering our WR corps. I bet he couldnt handle the offense or sight adjusting. Or he didnt have the work ethic like others have mentioed, it wasnt because of a fumble or because BB is holding a grudge...again it amazes me, after the Pats released a guy who clearly couldnt compete, that some people here question the organization and claim its becoming a joke. So sad.

how can you release someone with Gabriel's skills?
He has barely been playing so they obviously haven't been overwhelmed by his total skill set.
