Re: Assante might be available

This team is banking alot on Bodden.I really hope he plays well.I am expecting McCourthy to make huge strides in his second year.

Screw him.....

If the strides McCourty makes in his second year are anything like the improvement he showed in his first, he'll be the best in the business. Arrington is another one who made great strides last year, and by the end of the season, he was a decent #2 corner. I would expect stiff competition and more time in the sytem would make Bodden better, but I suppose a drop off is always possible. We have a good secondary, and they are relatively cheap too.

Re: Assante might be available

on another note why does all Patriot fans bring up the dropped INT in the game that shall not be named when Harrison and Merriweather both drop INTs on the very same drive and Woods somehow lost a fumble recovery after being the only person to fall on it.

I don't remember Harrison missing an INT. I do remember Harrison trying to break the back of a receiver rather than just knocking the ball (which was attached to his helmet) away. That receiver was Asante's assignment, and he gave up on the play when it looked like there was a sack, I guess.

I don't blame Woods, I blame the ref. The ball is fumbled, he falls on it and then the ref lets Bradshaw wrestle it away. As soon as Bradshaw touched him he should have been called down by contact.

Re: Assante might be available

He won't come because of the money - but people shouldn't bash Asante because of his bad exit... He'd be an improvement over Butler, Arrington,...

He won't come. But even though his tackling is suspect, he'd still have a place on this D if money didn't matter.

Re: Assante might be available

This secondary gave up tons of big plays last year still.I still remember Arrington having a bad game against the jets in the playoffs.I am hopeful that they will be able to create a pass rush this year.

It was an out route to I believe Toomer and it went right through his hands just like it did Merriweather (which was a diving attempt, which admittedly would have been difficult) and Asante's but no ever mentioned them because Asante was the guy who was leaving the team and the aforementioned play.

Asante would be an improvement if you're looking to create turnovers rather than play coverage with your corners. The problem with Samuel is he's a gifted ball hawk but he's susceptible to conceding big plays.

We don't know what we have in Dowling yet.

Re: Assante might be available

He'd definitely upgrade the secondary, but the price would probably be too high.

Not nearly as good as McCourty not as good as a healthy Bodden IMO.

Re: Assante might be available

Salary is certainly issue, but hell Yes, the guy was a great Patriot.

Re: Assante might be available

If he restructured I'd be all for it but I doubt he would but on another note why does all Patriot fans bring up the dropped INT in the game that shall not be named when Harrison and Merriweather both drop INTs on the very same drive and Woods somehow lost a fumble recovery after being the only person to fall on it.

The Woods thing doesn't get mentioned enough, IMO. Also, I do remember the Meriweather drop and have talked about that quite a bit. My love for Harrison and everything he meant to this organization won't allow me to say anything negative about him.

The Woods thing doesn't get mentioned because it was a clear case of the Referees blowing the call. Woods clearly had control of the ball and was DOWN by contact. Yet they allowed Ahmad Bradshaw to dive in after the whistle should have been blown.

I agree w/ everything you said just pointing out that it wasn't that 1 (ok 2 :( ) play(s) by Asante that lost that game and people shouldn't hold that against him.

People mention Asante's blown interception because he LAUGHED about it immediately instead of being pi$$ed.

Asante was the one who was supposed to have Tyree on the immaculate catch but gave up on the play. Asante was also the one who allowed Tyree to go free instead of making sure he had help over the top that led to Tyree's TD..

Re: Assante might be available

I would think he's on the block -- are one of those 3 supposed to be covering the slot?

ediT; I'm not suggesting we trade for him, but somebody probably will.

maybe dallas?

I've never seen a football player play as soft as Samuel did in SB 42. He played that way throughout the '07 playoffs. They would have been better off deactivating him.

Yep. It was either a cover 2 of a 2 man under defense and the idiot let a ST player run away from Shamuel and proceeded to run towards the LOS when Eli 'escaped'.
I will hate him till I die.
