2003-2004 team

The Patriots had their fourth loss in thirteen games. That is not a bad record. But I think it puts into perspective just how good the 2003/2004 Patriot teams really were. To go 14-2 in back to back seasons and sweep through the playoffs and Super Bowls is just amazing. There will always be upsets and bad games and the occasional blowout. We, as Patriot fans, should really appreciate how good the Pats were in that two year span. Not many teams have had 14 win seasons and have gone on to win the big one.

This years team is doing fine and will be in the playoffs. Once there, it's a new season.

Looking back it is truly stunning. Not only the duo of 17-2 seasons with SB trophies attatched, but don't forget: Those were the teams that set the longest winning streak in NFL history. Pretty amazing.

I'm hoping that the Patriots can re-fill their roster and get back to that level in the next few seasons. We have our main players on the DL locked up. We have our QB locked up. We have a young RB locked up. We have a rookie WR with loads of potential locked up. We have at least two first day TEs locked up, maybe three depending on if they resign Graham. We have some needs in the secondary and at LB. We have some needs on the OL. We have some needs at the other WR spots.

But overall I think it's possible to restock this team over the next couple years.

That 2003 team looked worse than us in most of their games. They had a killer instinct, but also a lot of luck.

If we look back without the rose colored glasses, we see a team that struggled to win even against bad teams and in no way compared to the 2004 team with the same record.

But that is what made that team so good. The 2003 Patriots had most of their games decided in the last minute. The key is to make the plays when you have to and that team, week in and week out, did it. It was also a heck of a lot of fun watching them that year. When you look back on the injuries and the ragtag defensive backfield the Patriots had, it is amazing that they won at all. And though they did struggle with bad teams, thee record against good teams was pretty good.

Even without the rose colored glasses, it is hard to argue against winning your last 15 games in row. The 2003 may not have been one of the most dominating teams ever, but I would say they were probably one of the smartest and toughest ever.

The 2004 Patriots should be considered on of the top teams of all time.

Those two teams were some of the best not only in Pats History ,but nfl history.. Those were great yrs, and we are spoiled, which is why alot of sky is falling talk is around.

It was fun, if you had a strong heart. This team is sluggish, but the 2003 team never put it together like this team did against Cinci, Minn and Green bay.

Each team has a personality and I don't think we'll ever be as scrappy as those units.

I kind of like the current purge, because I think the current problem is more attitude than aptitude.

Like many of the fans, this team expects to win and looks back on a mythical time when it came easy.

It never did and never will.

Those years were great, and wonderful. Now, however, I have a sneaking suspicion that some of the magic is gone. I wouldn't doubt if the team and BB have lost some of Brady's trust and devotion over the yearlong WRs fiasco. And, the home town discount, i.e., stick around for less money and win a ring mantra is gone. In fact, I would be surprised if it hasn't gone 180 degrees, with Patriots players probably looking around more now because they realize the average career lifetime is only four years and why shouldn't they go out and grab all the money they can. Everybody talks about the koolaid. I think there's something foul in it now that I refuse to type because I've been a fan for so long. Teams like New Orleans, San Diego and Jacksonville are the ones catching the lightning in a bottle now. Hope I'm way wrong. We'll see.
