And I'm not talking OLD guys either. Justin Blalock. Harvey Dahl. Rich Seusbert, etc..

And I think that Tampa could be a dark horse for Nnamdi.. They had a TON of money to spend.. and haven't spent a lot yet.

Philly could be another place. What a terror they'd be for teams with Nnamdi and DRC back there.

Just what I wanted some O line talk. Ocho won't get the ball if Brady is on his ass.

We still need a RG imo.

Took yourself OT in your opening post! :p But on the title topic...if Light signs, I think Seubert's a great fit (assuming his knee checks out). Reasonably nimble guy with starting experience at both RG and C.

I'm hoping we can get after a RG as well

Does Shaun O'Hara (former NYG OC) make sense?

Cannon at RG. I can feel it.

We need to know where we stand regarding Light and Mankins first.

Did he practice today? I read somewhere that PUP was still an option for him.

He got to Foxboro this evening. He tweeted that traffic held him up.. Which I can believe since that area is a disaster even at good times... Supposed to sign his contract and be ready 1st thing in the morning.

Whether or not the Pats re-sign Matt Light would seem to be the over riding factor in pursuing free agent offensive linemen.

From last year you have Quinn Ojinnaka who was a backup interior lineup and second choice off the bench as a backup tackle who is a free agent that could be re-signed or could be upgraded. Then you have Mark LeVoir as a backup tackle that could be upgraded.

I'm going to assume Nick Kaczur is not returning, but since he didn't play a down last year it's not as if that's a roster spot that would need to be replaced.

I assume Marcus Cannon wasn't at practice today because he isn't under contract yet for starters

If Light doesn't re-sign, I would expect us to keep Kaczur. Counting on solder starting and ahving LeVoir as the first off the bench is simply not acceptable.

I like Connolly more than most seem to, but Cannon beating him out for RG would be an awful fine cherry on the top of this off season. That being said, 5x Pro Bowler (including last season) Brian Waters just came on the market. How greedy are we?

My guess is 9 roster spots for OL

7 are 'locks', I am assuming Light is signed:

Light
Mankins
Koppen
Connolly
Vollmer

Solder
Cannon

2 of: Ojinnaka/Maneri/Wendell/Ohrnberger/LeVior

I will assume the other rookies are looking as PS spots. A lot depends on How quickly Cannon develops, I don't see him starting this year, can someone among the 4 competing for the last 2 spots challenge Connolly for the starters job. I am assuming Kaczur is gone due to cap.

Real competition for the last 2 spots.

Can we fit a starter under the cap who is an upgrade?

You don't want Waters.

Can we fit a starter under the cap that is an upgrade over Connolly? Yes. That doesn't mean that we will.

Also, you have made two major untested assumptions, that both Light and Mankins will be on the team in two weeks. Kaczur is here until Light signs.

Correct, I am assuming what will happen with Mankins, Light and Kaczur. What we do with regards to signing a FA would depned on what the Fron Office is planning to do with Light and Mankins.

IMO the best solution is to sign Light (if his demands are reasonable) Get Mankins with a LT contract to free up cap space and cut Kaczur to free up cap space.

Given the roster I wouldn't add a FA OL, any $$ left would be better spent on an OLB like Lawson.

I agree that if Light and Mankins are back, the patriots should next look to OLB. While I would like to see another guard, I think that we have done plently if we soldiy the LT, LG and RG (Cannon) positions long-term. That's a lot of good work on one unit for one off-season.

I don't why Light's demands would be "reasonable". I was very surprised at the stories today of how close he was to signing with the patriots.

The steelers need a LT badly and have apparently shown interest.
