Take off your homer hats for a few minutes and imagine Nnamdi to the Jets. If you are a football purist you gotta love the idea of TB going up against the best secondary in modern history 2-3x a year dontcha?? New York/Boston, Belichick/Ryan, Offense/Defense, so many story lines. There is so much more satisfaction in beating a good team than a crappy team, right? I dont expect everyone to be so bold as to emplore competition, but isnt that what we watch football for to begin with?

I approve as long as they don't get Asomugha AND Holmes or Edwards. Asomugha and Revis don't scare me when Sanchez is throwing to Cotchery and Kerley.

Agree 100%.

Can't wait!

OK..I have to ask you to SHUT UP...you are leaking green glee all over the board and we run a tight ship here...:yeeha:

This is the pro game, not the local "Y". I don't care about the competition. If the Patriots could face a schedule with all 16 games against teams with losing records, I'd be thrilled.

Settle down GN.

IIRC, your Jests have been the 'free agency champions' before.

I understand the excitement of winning a divisional rd game 2 yrs in a row, and even more so b/c our team did not do that recently, but championships are not won in the divisional round.

That all said, you're a good guy--so I will just learn to deal with your excitement, I suppose.

most un-realist fans say that "anyone going to a rival is a good thing" because they like to brag and boast

but i like your approach to it, giving credit, saying you want to beat the best

nnamdi awesome-guy is a GREAT cb

but one man or even two, doesn't win games, teams do

well yeah, i wouldn't mind my chargers just being handed a lombardi lol

but it's nice to beat a truely good team, because deep down, every fan wants their team to be respected, even when they claim different.....

How is this a good thing?

Can you imagine how much blitzing Rex could do if he had both of those guys as his corners? It'd be a nightmare for Brady and this O-Line, especially with a rookie like Solder likely at LT or RT.

You think Rex is exotic on D now? Give him two CB's who can play on an island and watch what he does with his front 7.

Tom Brady has had all of one good game vs a Rex Ryan defense in his career. The 45-3 game. Other than that, Rex's defenses have made him looked confused and have pretty much given him more trouble than anyone else in the league.

I don't know why any Pats fan would want to watch Rex's D tee off on Brady and this O-Line with those two corners.

I gotta say I expected more from you. Is the reason you watch football games for the GAMES or for the PATRIOTS?? To have the Pats go 16-0 against crap teams, not even worth watching leads to WHO CARES type of football. Think of the 16-0 season, sure it was fun to run up the score but didnt you have more fun watching the close games like Baltimore?? If you say you liked em all the same you'd be lyin. Its the thrill of a potential loss as much as the glory of a big win isnt it?? When asked, players and coaches agree that the pain of losing is much more memorable than the glory of winning. I think the same should hold for fans more or less right??

What the hell are you talking about? Who watches games hoping to have a competitive ball game. I want to see us destroy everyone.

Let me repeat, and clarify.

When I watch young kids play sports, I watch for the wonder the kids experience and to watch them develop. The goals for the kids are to learn the game, have fun, and to win.

When I watch teens playing sports, I watch them begin to really measure themselves against others for the first time, and to begin forming their athletic wills. The goals for the kids are to get better, to understand what it takes to win, and to strive for victory.

By the time they are in college, I enjoy watching them play against other high end talent, and striving to be the best that they can be. The goals are to develop well enough to continue playing beyond college, to learn the life lessons involved in teamwork, discipline, etc..., and to win.

Once they are in the pros, I watch them trying to win. I'll take 16-0 against 16 games with a losing record over 8-8 against a lot of tough teams. I'm not watching the pros because I want to see the second string tight end rise to the challenge of having to step in for an injured starter. The goal is to win.

I loved 16-0. I hated the Ravens game. The measuring stick/tough game stuff gets old in a hurry when the team has already established itself as a winner.

And the reason that losing is more memorable than winning is because high end athletes hate and/or fear losing.

Exactly. It might get boring after a while, but I'm willing to risk that.

So the Jets have apparently been in talks with Asomugha.

How the **** can they afford him with the amount of FAs they have?

Raise your hands if you weren't GIDDY with savage PLEASURE when we beat the Jets, 45-3!! :rocker:

Exactly.

The Jets signing A would be AWESOME.

That move would strip them BARE.

It would leave them about ONE injury away from 6-10.

And you are such a HOMER that you would rather not respect the other team or the athletic competition? Knowing the results in advance, would you rather watch a 24-21 win or a 59-0 blowout? According to you the blowout right? What do you learn about your team in a blowout?? Dont you learn more about your team in a tight, hard-fought win?? There are different schools of thought for sure. Parcells liked building the team, Belichick would rather coach the game. That doesnt mean Parcells didnt coach and BB didnt build, right? This team isnt even built yet, they havent won a game. You dont know who is going to make the team and you certainly dont know much about the team(s)we will be playing. What makes sports and football in particular a fantastic specatator sport is that it is the ultimate reality show. The players, the characters change and the landscape evolves each week. Last years heavy favorites are this years Cinderellas, etc. To watch every game with the idea of beating the opponent as badly as possible is to simply not enjoy sport.
The best game I ever went to was the 02 Finale when we came back from 10 points down with 2 minutes left to win in OT. The JEST won and we didnt make the playoffs but that doesnt discount the QUALITY of the game regardless of playoff outcome.

You're a trip, dude.

We're all PATRIOT fans. That's our team. We want to see them win, and enjoy the success of seeing said 'wins.'

Hell yes, we all enjoy 59-0 victories more than 24-21 games.

As I said before, we are PATRIOT fans, we're not Roger Goodell or sportsbooks looking for improved parity.

That's one way to look at it, OTG. But I do agree with those who say that having the #1 LCB and #1 RCB in the entire NFL will allow Rex Ryan to dial up more exotic schemes and a higher percentage of all out blitzes.

First of all, all of these 'experts' who said the NYJ were in cap hell were apparently wrong, or at least not as right as they thought they were. I recently saw that they were about 5-7 million over. A well respected poster told us this morning that they are only 1 million over. I suppose the answer likely lies somewhere in the middle, depending on how these sources are computing the numbers, but I had assumed it was way worse. Look at a team like Dallas, who is almost 20 million over the cap--I expected the NYJ to be somewhere closer to the 10 million over range, so it appears as though they may not be as bad at a lot of us once thought. With the cap creativity that they have, the stout defense, and now they are not only aggressively going after their own FA's, they are targeting highly qualified NFL vets to improve the team. To be completely honest, I can't see how retaining Holmes, and adding Asomaugh is considered 'a good thing' from a rival's standpoint.

Apparently, as I said in another thread, they are escaping cap hell every single yr in various forms, and banking on doing the same thing next yr. They are robbing Peter to pay Paul--so to speak, and we all assume that it will eventually catch up to them, and that very well may be true...but to WHAT extent, and exactly WHEN are 2 important questions. Will it be before or after they continue to make improvements? Will they make a strong run at an actual SB or two before they pay the piper? And to what extent, will they actually pay the piper? Considering that every yr their free agent needs change, along with an increased salary cap etc--will they continue to restructure and spread out bonuses over future yrs?

I'm not sure that I share the same "enthusiasm" as you do about it. Because any improvements may actually make them a decent team one of these days (even though I really don't consider them 'that' decent of a team right now). Added competition from the rival divisional team that has gone farther than us in 2 consecutive yrs is not too great to me---although I can respect your views, and you certainly have a point. You may very well be right, I am only thinking aloud, and wondering about a different angle.

To bottom line it---I am wondering if their creativity vs the cap isn't doing them a little better than we think, or give them credit for? It is, after all possible that they could continue to dodge cap hell by re-establishing their team, all the while giving Sanchez time to grow up/mature + keeping a very good defense. They may continue to have to make some tough decisions over the next few yrs, but I wonder if they will still field a very competitive team. One of the good posters here claims that he thinks the cap increases significantly around 2014 or so, and I wonder if they may get some relief from that rule too. One way or another, they are going to be competitive--at least in my opinion. I really don't want them to get Asomaugh at all. Many teams will try and figure out a gameplan to combat the lack of being able to throw at all, and I think they will just continue to adapt over the course of the yr. It seems to be tough enough right now to beat them, as we've only done in 2 times in the past 5, and I think this perceived move would make it even tougher.
