Re: Some interesting vets being cut

I would be a big fan of importing a veteran guard to hold down the fort while Cannon develops for a year.

Agreed! Assuming Mankins plays, LG would be set. Grab a vet to play RG, with Connelly as the back up at both G positions, and Cannon can develop at his own pace.

Re: Some interesting vets being cut

Also Mike Brown is reported to have said that Palmer is retired as they refuse to trade him!

Bit stupid personally! Get what they can for an average at best QB!

Trade or release Palmer!? But that would make Mike Brown not a miserable human being.

He's really sticking to Palmer. Trying to set an example I guess.

Trying to show that players don't run the team, but I can see them eventually trading him!

Palmer can wait until Cinncy is at 99% and un-retire ..........

Re: Some interesting vets being cut

Roy Williams will also be released by the Cowboys.

Re: Some interesting vets being cut

Things are interestingly busy in Big D today....

We need to wait a week. But if Chad is cut, he'll be a patriot. He is a perfect fit for a couple of years. And he will have no trouble working with Brady for Belichick.

Nfln claims he is a free agent, is that an assumption or is he actually a free agent now?

Assumption, based on his $6M salary and the drafting of AJ Green.

Re: NFL Free Agent tracker thread

Just as an aside, the first drafted rookie has signed. Mason Foster has signed with the Bucs.

"We have signed Mason Foster. He's a big part of our future plans."

So said Buccaneer GM Mark Dominik Tuesday afternoon that the future middle linebacker will be on the field when camp opens on Thursday.

"ASAP for the others," said Dominik, referring to Adrian Clayborn and Da'Quan Bowers and the rest. "I want to have them out there the first day of training camp," he said emphatically.

According to the story, the team's 7th round pick has also signed.

And over in Washington Haynesworth is available for "a ham sandwich"

and JuddZulgad tweets:
"Yes, ESPN is reporting the Vikings have had trade talks with Washington about Donovan McNabb. I've said all along doesn't make sense to me."

My personal #1 target: Quinten Mikell. Not an obvious need, but safety depth is a question mark. Sanders seems to be on a steep decline, and Meriweather's a question mark after this season. Plus, Mikell instantly goes a long way to solving that 3rd down defense problem.

After that, an OLB is obviously a big need. My feeling remains Roth.

I forgot about Redskins and the calamity of McNabb!

I am guessing they need a stop gap before the rookie can step in!

I prefer Weddle, but wouldn't at all be upset with Mikell. It'd let the Pats get what value they can out of Meriweather now, and maybe ditch Sanders' contract as well. And both Weddle and Mikell go along with the "be solid before you be spectacular" motto that Meriweather didn't seem to understand.

Charles Johnson DE Carolina Panthers being courted by Atlanta and Denver as well as the Panthers looking to resign him.

Steve Reed on twitter:
"Just spoke with DE Charles Johnson on the phone. Panthers GM Marty is in Miami trying to convince Johnson to re-sign with Carolina."
"Johnson said Atlanta and Denver are also interested in signing him."
