Dane Fletcher, in this weeks Patriots Football Weekly, said that he made the Patriots by learning that he had to be the first player to arrive and the last player to leave each day. He credits Mayo for tutoring him about the Patriots way.

FWIW here are the first Pats in this morning:

FWIW several tweets mentioning confirmation from Chung that Tom Brady is not at the facility.

Must be that strong Bozeman Montana work ethic

Fletcher was really quite amazing last year. To go straight from playing DE for a small school to ILB in the NFL, and look good doing it...remember when we used to say that BB didn't draft ILBs because the position took too long to learn?

With his attitude and athleticism (physically, pretty much a Jerry Hughes clone) Fletcher could end up being a very good player indeed.

Apparently has put on 10 Lbs of muscle in offseason. Mayo is close friend and mentor. Lived with Gronk during the offseason.

Actually, I think they've been roommates since last offseason.

The undrafted guys always need an offseason to get caught up to speed with the pros strength-wise.

I remember when he came into the first preseason game last year, we were all expecting Tyrone McKenzie to step in instead of Dane. We all thought 'what's wrong with McKenzie' with little regard to what the undrafted player was doing. And sure enough, he made the team and Tyrone was cut. And he even worked his way into playing time during the season. One of the reasons why we have a pretty good inside linebacking corps.

I am expecting big things from Dane this season. Kid seems to have a knack for making Bruschi-type plays, although he is not there yet.

Have a gut feeling he could end up pushing Spikes for playing time alongside Mayo.

Re: Fletcher: First in the door & last out

Which begs the question -- but can he rush the passer? In all seriousness there has been some speculation that Fletcher might be able to fill the OLB position for the Pats.

With TBC removed as an obstacle, perhaps Fletcher swings to the outside and gives us some unexpected contributions in 2011?

That is an intriguing prospect. If he can rush the passer and set the edge, then I am all for it.

They have good depth at ILB with Mayo, Spikes, and Guyton.

Fletcher is a welcomed luxury at that position at the moment

Re: Fletcher: First in the door & last out

I like Fletcher as a pass rusher, not as an OLB. I don't see him ever being an edge-setter, but he's enough of a pure pass rusher to contribute in subpackages.

Re: Fletcher: First in the door & last out

What he becomes in this league is all up to him and it looks like he is going at it the right way.

Really liked this kid even in his rookie year.

Even he doesn't play a traditional OLB role per se, that kind of flexibility could allow BB to mix things up a bit. Let the LB's appear to roam like the old days, with Fletcher wandering outside to rush while Ninko or Cunningham cover his inside duties. Adds a dimension of unpredictability, which is always a good thing.
