We all know the skins owner has sooo much money that we have seen him throw at players in the past. They seem determined to acquire Holmes and this would be a great victory for the PATRIOTS. Holmes is legit and I would love to see him disappear from the AFCE

Redskins expected to target Santonio Holmes

Sources tell the NY Daily News that signing Santonio Holmes is indeed the Redskins' "No. 1 priority" as they approach free agency.
This echoes a previous report from NFL Network's Jason La Canfora. The Daily News envisions a scenario in which the Redskins and Jets engage in a one-on-one bidding war for Holmes, similar to their fight over Laveranues Coles in 2003. Holmes has made it pretty clear that he's going to sign with the highest bidder. The Skins have more available cap space than the Jets at this point, but New York won't let him get away without an all-out fight.

Let's hope Snyder overpays for that stupid little criminal. Mediocre Marky definitely will be taking a step back this season, maybe two steps without decent wideouts to throw to.

Holmes is legit, and normally I would be for throwing big $s his way (7M per).

But in a bidding war with the Skins Vs Jets, I have to believe the Skins win.

It's hard to put a value on Holmes considering he is one bad piss away from a year suspension, in his prime, a SB MVP, etc..

Rex called him the best player on the team. But maybe he says that 53 times to different people.

Wrecks can't make up his mind on which Green Bean is the best. One day it's Holmes, the next day it's Revis. Everyone else wonders why the hell he names favorites.

By the way, Nut: isn't it time to move the Jets Suck thread back to the main forum???

I hope the Jets over pay for him. Thats the best way this works.

I just read on another site that dead money won't count against the cap and so the Jets will be about 20 million under.

Im upset on a day when I shouldn't be :(

Nah, best scenario is them overpaying for someone lesser like Edwards, or way overpaying for Asomugha to the point that they have to let all their FAs go:cool:

No, he only reserves such compliments for players who display the best feet.

=================================

There is a great argument to be made that he is the best player on the Jets O, he does have tremendous skill and a knack for making great plays.

My point, He has a ring, he has a SB MVP, he has 2 bad urine tests, and never had the big pay day. I worry after he gets paid big that he has another bad piss, then the team he is signed with is going to be in a world of hurt.

I like the kid and would love to see him remain a Jet, I'm just worried about the $s and the risk.

The Redskins should be making a run at him. John Beck is going to need all the help he can get.

Now THAT would be wicked pissah!

The rules might have changed, but the concept couldn't have gone away; otherwise teams with deep pockets would always win FA battles.

Then there is this

Holmes' agent, Joel Segal, told The Post on Monday, "Santonio loves New York, he's a fan of the head coach, he likes the quarterback, he likes the system. There's a strong possibility of Santonio staying in New York. He's a huge fan of New York."

The Redskins reportedly will make an attempt to sign Holmes, who played last season for the Jets after being traded from the Steelers. "I spoke to Santonio numerous times. We have a plan," Segal said. "We know our priorities and we're ready to go."

Source? I haven't read anything to that effect.

So will they have around 20 mill in cap space? I hope not!

It's from a good poster on another site I read I have no problem posting it but are there any rules against posting links to other sites?

Was it from a reputable national source like Brandt or Schefter? Or a fan forum where it was most likely more wishful thinking than based on fact?

I think what NEPats1 is saying is that everything would start fresh in 2011, then dead money would start counting against caps in 2012 and beyond.

Yeah, my first thought as well.

Last I saw, which was late last week, the Green Beans were one of four or five teams OVER the cap, by about $2 million. They need to cut some veterans.

Not at all; please post the link so we can check it out.

Ok Here's where I read it guys:

Looks like dead money isn't going to count against the 2011 cap. So the Jets actually have about $20M to spend (and can get down below that with re-signing Harris and re-structuring Sanchez).

Yes, they have a lot of holes to fill. But the talk of them not being able to afford 3 quality players (Cromartie/Edwards/Holmes or similar players) is probably inaccurate now.

Like I said I've been reading his posts and he's a good poster IMO who's been on top of this stuff.
