4 pieces of Silver Lining after Miami loss

1) The defense played adequately. Many of our recent games vs. Miami have had scores like 28-27. Yesterday's defensive effort would have won such a game.

2) San Diego is the only team I can't see us beating in the post-season. If SD gets upset, we could still go all the way with a little luck.

3) If there was any doubt about the Maroney draft pick, yesterday proved how wise it was.

4) Seattle lost! We are currently projected to pick 26th in their slot --- better than the 30th I feared.

However, I think it's wrong. Baltimore? How's their blitzing vs. Miami's? We would have negative yardage on them.

Anyway the biggest piece of silver lining is that not watching the Pats will free up a lot of time to do chores around the house, enjoy the weather, etc.

I agree with point about SD. IMO, Pats best chances are playoff seeding of #1 SD, #2 BAL, #3 NE with NE matching up against the #6 seed (which hopefully will not be Cincy!).

But honestly, lets sit back realistically. We are *****ing and *****ing about this team, but end of the day, the Pats have 3 very winnable games the rest of the way, they should be favored in all of them.

If they win out, they are 12-4. I repeat: 12-4. This is despite playing poorly most of the season. If they can bring their A game come January, they could do some damage.

I know we are spoiled by recent success, but the fans of about 80% of NFL teams would kill for a 12-4 season. So let's relax.

My silver linings yesterday were :

- Jesters lost, we're still in control of the division.
- Seahawks lost, that always makes me happy.
- Colts lost, that always makes me happy.

- Dillon ran well. I still think we can make something of the season if we get get to a lot of running with Dillon and Maroney. Good running, good defense. Cut out the mistakes and I still think we can make a run.

I couldn't watch the Pats, had to agonize over the posting of scores. Watched the Jags run wild over the Colts, 148 yards in the first half. By the third, the Jags were resting there two starting backs. No team has given up 5.4 rushing yards since the expansion Vikings in 61. Can you say toast? Seriously, the Jaguars' RB (eliminating the QB) were 38-371, averaging 9.76.

Decent points to help counteract much of the panic on this board. 9-4 is a dream record in the big scheme of things. Throw in a two game divisional lead with 3 games to go and Pats fans should count themselves as lucky. No, it's not the strongest team New England has fielded, and yesterday's loss was hideous - but things could be a lot worse....and they have been.

How about the other teams that all the media no nothings were touting at the beginning of the year?
Miami?
Carolina?
Atlanta?
Denver?
NY Giants?

Granted the Pats have made their mistakes, but for this season, there does not appear to be a dominant team out there. San Diego, maybe, but if you can neutralize LT and force Rivers to beat you, you have a decent chance. Gee, isn't that the model we always used against Pittsburgh, take away their run and force Slash or Burger to beat you and they couldn't.

You could be right. Regardless, I think we matchup well vs JAX and am not too worried about that game. Esp. since JAX is one of the more Jeckle & Hyde teams in the NFL.

Out of the final three games, the only one I'm worried about is the Titans.

I'm with you, really. I agree we are spoilt by recent success but a team only has a limited window to win a championship (let alone 3!!!) and I don't feel like ours has really started to close yet (my head is swimming uttering that, I know, 3!!!) But, we have a QB who won his first championship before he'd hit his prime and some groups of players who might be considered the best in the league (DL, secondary [when not injured...], RBs). It's painful to watch well-laid plans go to waste. McDaniels clearly isn't in tune with his offense, (Brady would never yell at Weiss), and Vrabel and Bruschi (my two fav defensive players) have been slow on the draw (but Colvin and Seau [was] have been flying to the ball like their hair's on fire!!!) The team has the talent to make a Super Bowl run but they're too streaky for me to have much confidence at this point. Name a streaky team that ever won a championship besides '79 Rams???

S.D. looks great but I remember a few years back when Manning threw 48/50 TD's and everyone said Nobody will beat the Colts.
Correct me id I am wrong but didn't we win the SB that year.

My point is don't be crowing a team the SB in Dec. Everyone was on the Bears Jock a month ago not its S.D.
Until Marty proves it I wouldn't bet on the Chargers and their rookie QB.

Well I don't think that Rams team won, they lost to Pitt correct? So I can't think of any.

I agree, its frustrating bc the talent is there to win a SB *this* year. That much is obvious. I mean, this team has been playing their C- Game all year and still is 9-4. If they play a complete A-game--or even a B+ game--they can beat any team in the league.

I was hoping that the team would get hot in December and carry momentum into the playoffs, maybe even steal the #2 seed, but they would have had to go 13-3 and run the table to do that, so it's not happening now.

I hope you are not referring the the Jags in that "3 very winnable games" statement (but of course you must be!).....The Jags game at Jax will be a very tough game to come out on top on.....We should win against Houston...and have a good chance to beat Tenn (but they are coming on strong)......I think all 3 remaining games are going to be tough, hard wins for us....could end up 10-6 when all is said and done....one man's opinion

In points, yes.
In play, no.
There were 2 series in the 1st half where Harrington missed wide open receivers that would have resulted in TDs or long gainers at worst for Miami. The D gets 'credit' for the stops but it was consistently poor play by the Miami QB that kept us in the game in the 1st half.
