If the Jets get Nnamdi Asomugha

Who will rush the passer? Or catch the Sanchise's passes? Or run their Wildcat? Or replace the guys they cut in February or fill out the 46 game day active roster spots??

Behind every cloud lies a potential silver lining.

The JEST will find a way. :(

With this years cash spending to 99% to the cap. the elite FAs are going to break the bank. TB is $50 million under the cap and need a CB. If Aso signs with the Jets he be leaving millions on the table............not happening.

Will they? The last two seasons, they struggled in the regular season only to heat up in the playoffs. They got lucky in 2009 that 9-7 got them into the playoffs and that they faced two teams that had nothing to play for. Last year they had a lot of games that they had no right winning and pulled out last minute wins. I give them credit for doing that, but you can't live on the edge like that year after year.

The Jets are an enigma right now. They could be a strong contender or a pretender because they have tons of holes that they have to fill. If they ignore those holes to fill one or two and then put a bunch of JAGs everywhere else, it could seriously weaken the team. This is not the NBA.

I ment somehow pulling off Nnamdi, as well as stuffing other players below the cap. I could see that BS happening with Goodell.

Like, say they got Nnamdi, Braylon and Holmes both walk. Couldn't they still get Plaxico and Naane cheap?

Make no mistake...the Jets aren't in good cap shape...sure they can play around with restructuring but they have already started out OVER the cap and will have to scramble just to sign a couple of their key players to contracts..Add on the minimum salary increases and they are even more over the cap.....

Do they mortgage the future even more with restructures? I hope so....The Pats are doing it the right way....They have few holes from top to bottom and have nice depth players .....

BB knows better than anyone here where his team needs help....

In BB I Trust ;)

You're right. How else can you explain all those Lombardi's they've amassed in the last 4 decades...:bricks:

You have to give them some credit, they've been better than the pats the last 2 years. Ryan has done a good job.

If they made that signing by mid season with a 4-4 record, the internal bickering would boil over so bad, they'd make James Harrison look like a team player.

If they finished a distsnt 2nd or 3rd,Tannenbaum will be looking for a job.

Jets have still finished BEHIND Pats in AFC East......BB has built a team that is in the long haul....Tanngenius and Rex have pieced together a team that was supposed to take it all LAST season..they missed their window....their star players will be leaving for greener pastures......

Let's see how they fare this year....

My guess is Sanchez doesn't get lucky and pull games out of his butt in the last seconds of games due to dumb penalties and stupid plays by the opposition and his interceptable passes don't get dropped half the time by his opposition..Holmes pulled games out for them a few times last season...will he still be a Jet this year? I doubt it.....Cromartie also most likely a goner.....Brad Smith may be also in a new uni...

Going to be fun watching the scramble in NY this season.....

Better is a subjective term. We've won a lot more regular season games. They've won a couple of more post season games. But neither team has won it all. The Pats are in fine shape cap wise. The JETS are not. We don't have many glaring holes on our roster. They have several. We have Bill and he is the root of the entire system. They have Rex and he's a glorified DC who doesn't have a clue about offense or salary caps or long range organzational planning so (like Herm) he remains pretty much at the mercy of his surrounding cast - and he doesn't even have final say on his own roster or staff.

Ryan has also had some good fortune along the way. Heck, he thought they were mathmatically eliminated down the stretch in that first season. There were more games handed to them down the stretch in both of his seasons than games he somehow found a way to win. I'd say he and Tannenbaum bought themselves some time, but the clock is truly ticking for one if not both of them. They've been playing in a window and haven't made the sacrifices count yet. They probably have two more years in which to get over the SB hump. Then their window closes.

Peter also predicts that Revis will holdout in 2012... In the Big Apple the base will turn on you faster than in Boston, even. Just ask the Mangenius. Or Herm. Or old Noodle Arm. Or Vernon.

Everything I've read or heard has been Aso to Dallas. Remember, Rob Ryan is now the D coordinator in Big D and he was a coordinator in Oakland and Aso is a big fan. Dallas has some cap problems also, but they're not as bad as NYJ.

Ryan HAS done an excellent job, but the wonder child, who Jet fans love to love has built a house of cards to get into those 2 AFCCGs. They will be lucky to sign half their OWN FAs let alone participate in any elite FA competition.

Realistically here's what they COULD do. They CAN save a bunch of money restructuring Sanchez's contract (in the $8MM range), but I read a while back that there isn't much they can do with Revis' deal. Like Mankins, They could save around $3-4MM redoing the Harris contract. Saving that 10-12MM will free up enough to sign a couple of their EXISTING FsA. Nothing more, and even then their depth will be sorely compromised.

Remember, they are OVER the cap without signing their rookies, without signing Holmes, Edwards, Poole, Slauson, Woody, Taylor, and Smith all guys who got significant snaps for them last season (and this is just off the top of my head there could be more), and without adding the $55,000 dollar raise the minimum wage guys got....and the top heavy Jets have a lot of them.

Jet fans will have you believe that "Tanny" will wave his magic wand and make all their cap woes disappear. Ain't gonna happen, Forget about Aso to the Jets. It's nothing more than mediot speculation. Hell it worked, didn't it. It got 3 pages of talk here. ;)

They can do renegotiate Revis' deal, but they would have to give him a new deal not convert salary for bonus. Revis is going to want $18 million a year though (he already said he will hold out next season without a new deal for that much). So I don't know how much they can save.

That's what I said. Any new deal with Revis would be for even MORE money, so its hard to conceive a scenario which would have the the Jets saving significant money without completely hamstring themselves down in the future. They COULD however, go to a guy like BThomas and have one of those take the salary cut or BE cut conversations. You know like the one we are likely to have with Kazcur this week ;). They COULD save a couple of Million that way.

But even if they save a few more million over what I projected, they STILL won't have NEARLY enough money to sign their own FAs let alone get into the Aso competition.

BYW- does anyone one know if that 30% pay raise restriction made it into the new CBA?

Post season is all that really matters. I'd take 2nd in the afc east if it means we go further in the playoffs.

He did overpay for Bart Scott and Calvin Pace.

That's true. I forgot about Scott. I'll grant him that Pace has been more inconsistent in his play than expected (and hurt more often).

I still say that Tennenbaum is no Bruce Allen and won't sign a big name free agent unless it was a real bargain. I don't see that being his style.

In their situation (the cap), any acquisitions have to have good value, like when they picked up Holmes last offseason.

I hate the Jets. However, the dislike I have for them has become more intense lately. This means that.......Ryan and Tanny have done a good job.

As Patriots fans, I think we really don't appreciate their plight. We have had a decade of winning football and the model franchise.

The simple fact is the Jets have a $1 billion plus stadium they need to fill. The reality is the Jets HAD to be made relavent. They have succeeded in that so you really can't blame them.

It may very well collaspe on them. However, for this period of moving into the new stadium, they needed the buzz. Nothing buzzes better than big mouths and winning some games.

Rex has mentioned that the top 22 players are more important to him then the bottom 31. He would cut every single one of the bench players to sign Nnamdi

Post season means didley if you don't win something....

If you win the AFCC you get to go to the SB and get a shot at winning the Lombardi...

Jets did NEITHER....

They did, however, get a lower draft pick, so they have that going for them

Pats disappointed fans last 2 seasons in the post season..chalk it up to inexperience and youth while rebuilding...(add in a dash of bad luck with 4 key veteran players missing action)

Better things expected in the next few seasons with the kids gaining experience....

Pats DB should be as good as, if not better than, the Jets this season....

Pats depth will make a big difference this season....

Someone on the Gang Green jets message board mentioned that Schefter recently said that the Jets are frontrunners. BUT, there was no link or reference of any kind, so this might be either really old or completely bogus.

I'm guessing both.
