Due to injury, Ken Walters is on this team not because of his ability to punt, because he has none, but because he is a consistent place holder. IS THAT THE CORRECT READ? It has to be. He sucks beyond human comprehension, yet he is employed because of his ability to catch a hiked ball, bring it to the ground, spin it to its proper position, and put his pointy finger on top of the ball...all so the placekicker who BB is reluctant to use has a better chance of making a kick.
So BB's dilemma is ...awful field position but good placeholder or the next best punter in the league available that provides better field position but sketchy placeholding skills. It's mindboggling that BB is willing to let Walter continue to mangle punting duties and add 40-60 yards of field position for the opposition.
Let me offer 2 solutions that will adhere to the organizational mantra of cost effectiveness.
1) Troy Brown. Simply add placeholder responsibilities to his list of duties. I won't get into the fact Troy is the most underpaid player in the entire NFL. The guy has great hands, great concentration, and a great attitude.
2) Matt Cassell. What else has he got to do?
