I'm surprised no one has mentioned they have Big Vince amongst their worst DTs for tackling. Of course, it is PFF, the source is admittedly a bunch of hacks, so it doesn't concern me much. Missed tackles if awfully subjective, and when you ask a bunch of amateurs to turn the subjective into objective, you get mixed results.

You mean other than the article SPECIFICALLY POINTING HIM OUT? The article notes that a number of top defensive linemen actually have terrible ratios.

I suspect this is because those guys are the ones you manage to fight through double teams to get close enough to the ballcarrier to get an "attempt." Lesser DLs wouldn't even be able to get close enough to get an attempt.

Quite true. Aside from the concept of assigning 'missed tackles' (what happens to the grading of a defensive player that is so out of position he's not even or barely on the tv screen?) versus tackles made, there are players who are good enough to draw double teams versus those that don't, and along with that players that are good enough that plays are specifically drawn up to avoid going towards him. In addition different players at the same position have different roles; in one scheme the idea may be to force a player wide where the WLB ends up getting the most tackles; in another it's the ILB/MLB who will get the most tackles; and in another it may be a defensive lineman rather than a linebacker.

Not only are these numbers questionable, so too is looking at total number of tackles or sacks. If you look at those numbers you probably should have two lists: one for teams that primarily play a 3-4, and another for 4-3 defenses.
