Fellow Players Slam Mankins

But in the end, the real douchebag is Ron Borges, for making shyte up. Not one of those players have come out and said they've asked for special privileges.

I have to say, that article didn't make a ton of sense to me.

Manning signing for as much money as he can possibly get is good for all NFL players because that "trickles down" and elevates everybody else's salaries? Huh? Has he not heard of that pesky salary cap?

Patchick - It trickles down in the idea that the Franchise tag will rise significantly for that position.

Yes, there is a salary cap, but look around the league. The franchise number for guards is astounding now. The numbers for other players continues to rise.

It makes sense that top player's contract trickles down to the other elite players at his position. But is that really good for the majority of union members?

Well, in all honesty, probably yes. When you think about the fact that the contracts of the blind-side protector are directly influenced by the contract of contract of the quarterback. And the quaterbacks also affect the wide receivers.

It gives the other players reasons to excel. Because they know that if they do, they'll get more money. Yes, some do. Some don't. But every year there are players who make that leap that were unexpected. Miles Austin comes to mind. Malcolm Floyd is another. BJGE.

But trickling down can't be a net gain because of the cap.
If teams are at the cap (or there budget) every $1mill given to one player is a combined 1 mill taken away from another.
The total cumulative salaries are unaffected.

I'm with Patchick and Andy here and it really seems pretty obvious IMO.

The salary cap, by definition, limits the total amount paid to the players. So if the top guys get more it's less for the bottom guys. I'm sure the top guys in the league were in favor of backing up Jackson and Mankins and the other 80% were against it.

It is this simple, if he signs with the Patriots he is a great guy, if he leaves the guy is a grade A douche.

Yeah, I don't buy Cole's lame argument at all. He was in a much stronger position if he had said that Peyton Manning earning a big salary and continuing to play at a high level earns the NFL an ever increasing amount of revenue that benefits players. Put the onus on Manning's performance, and then I'd buy the argument that it makes a difference.

Trickle down? No.

What's the opposite of trickle down anyway? We need a new metaphor. I think the guy from "There Will Be Blood" said it best: "I Drink Your Milkshake"

That's because there wasn't a Guard-specific number. All OLs were treated equally in the previous CBA, so if you franchised a G/C, they got tackle $.

That might change in the new CBA.

Cole is playing to a different audience, his future inside sources within the agent community. He's doing a solid for guys like Condon who had to jump in today and salvage PR spin the franchise tag grab debaucle he probably signed off on on his clients behalf when Kessler asked for volunteers to throw up one or two more lucrative roadblocks to negotiating a CBA out of court... Condon is also the father of the NFL trickle down theory. Sold it to Gene (he was Gene's agent too) for years. Caps don't faze him, he has yet to encounter one he can't find a workaround for...And he's hurtin' big time over the capping of rookie contracts. CAA reps all the stud rookie QB's and multiple top ten picks annually. His income from their obscene deals is about to be halved. He also sold Gene on their trickle down impact driving up veteran deals.

Two other agents who don't rep a ton of big names but don't scare easily are reportedly our buddy Frank Bauer and Jackson's agent Schwartz. So of course their players deserve whatever they can get...

They should gather all the plaintiffs and their agents in one location tomorrow. Maybe Tommy can bring Lua along and tell whichever one of them can stare her down gets to dictate the settlement terms - if he's still breathing.

Certainly not, not when there is a specific, limited amount of money to be spent on salaries.

It is easy to see that the trickle-down-so-that-other-players-earn-more-if-he-does idea is pure dumb:

Example:
Manning earns $20 mil
Leaves 100 mil for other 52 players to divy up (about $2 mil each)

Manning earns $40
leaves $80 mil for other 52 players to divy up (about $1.5 mil each)

Manning earns $70 mil
leaves $50 mil for other 52 players to divy up (about $1 mil each)

Where does this come from? You're not the first to insult Pats fans this way, but it has no basis in fact.

Some players who left weren't highly spoken of when they left, not because they left, but because they were dinks. We tried to overlook their dinkhood while they were here, that's all. cough cough moss cough

But this idea that Pats fans crap on all players after they leave is just bogus crap from stir-the-potters.

Who called Cassel a douche? People talk about Bledoe's INTs at critical times, but no one ever called him anything but a stand-up guy. Because he was and is. Chris Slade. Dan Klecko. Givens left and is highly respected. Willie, too. O.T.I.S. David Patten. The list of players who left and are respected is much larger than the few who left and aren''t respected.

Law and Milloy acted like dinks when they left, and are regarded as dinks. Again, not because they left but because they acted like dinks.

I think that most of the players that we Pats fans have "turned on" have been those who have made it clear that their primary interest is cashing in (e.g., Deion Branch in 2006, Adam Vinatieri in 2007). OTOH, you have players like Heath Evans, who wanted to stay, but simply couldn't turn down the amount that the Saints were offering him; I don't think anyone who respected him while he was a Patriot has turned on him since.

man, this crap is pathetic..

Ha ha!! You turned on a former player!! That makes us better than you!! Nonny nonny nu-nu!!

I'm not sad that Adalius Thomas left the Pats..and I don't give a rat's azz that anybody cares I think he sucks...free speech, democracy etc etc...you want to blither and blather on like a vacuous turnip brain about nonsense, try a kindergarten sandbox.

Well, do much for his claim that he had a source that said Mankins asked for something. In this piece he says it was Mankins or Jackson and Schefter had reported yesterday that Jackson had made a request but not Mankins.

That was monumental stupidity. No props to him, therefore, for any other part of the column that did happen to make to sense.

if your as good as Manning or Brady the type a player that makes your team much better then you should be pad top Doller but if your Vincent Jackson a WR who has never had more then 68 rec has never had 1200 yerds and has never had 10 TD's and he has played he's whole career with one of the best QB's the NFL a guy like that should not make more then 5 or 6 million IMO

Kind of hard to suggest that "trickle down" works in the NFL when over half of the players are paid the league minimum.
