Tony Mazz: Unanimous league MVP & Coach of the Year are all but done

Assuming that Belichick's extension started after the 2007 season, or more easily understood--2008, he is basically only 1/2 way through the extension.

(extended in 2007) 08, 09, 10

(still has) 11, 12, 13

I think we can probably expect another extension (at least as of today's viewpoint), somewhere in the next 2 yrs. That could all change of course, but when you look at his draft/personnel moves, his tendency to look towards the future cannot be viewed as a 'bad' thing in that regard.

I'm thinking that he will go a little bit past the age of Parcells (64), and I would like to think that he could even consider coaching almost another 8-10 yrs.

It may be just my opinion, but I think that Belichick is more 'football oriented' as a whole, when compared to the great Parcells. In other words, I think that the game means more to Belichick, and it keeps him going more than in BP's case. Of course IIRC, Parcells also had some health issues to deal with too, and may have felt that the stress was not worth the risk. To me, Belichick seems like a harder-nosed guy in that regard, almost closer to the **** LeBeau, Joe Paterno end of the spectrum. I'm thinking another 8-10 yrs if I had to guess, but it could be more coinciding with the end of Brady's career too. I guess it's pointless to try and put a guesstimate on it, considering that BB is the only one who has any idea whatsoever.

These articles are written for the sole purpose of stirring up the faithful.

Although I have to say, only in Boston are the local media so frivolously negative about successful home teams. Here in DC, they complain about the Redskins a lot, but it's nothing like the entitled b**ching that goes on in NE (and the Redskins legitimately suck). The writers in NE are like an annoying six year old little brother--they try to piss you off just because they can get attention for it.

Twilight of an era? We just posted our best regular season in four years. Our team is full of young players with talent. If you think we're in the "twilight," you've either been absent for a few years, or you're just an ***hole trying to provoke people into reading your articles because you aren't good enough to attract readers any other way.

Borges taught them that being resident contrarian will give them a long shelf life... even though it is a half life.

Mazz checks in, letting us know he still doesn't know much about football, but does know an awful lot about filling articles with rhetorical questions.

Haters going to hate, I suppose. Just seems rather absurd to question whether we're seeing the "twilight" of Brady's and Belichick's careers given they were both named as the best at the position this past season. I understand it's about the ring - and that this means nothing because of our failure in the playoffs, but it certainly indicates that both are still able to be at the top of their game over the long haul of a season.

I agree 100%.

Masserotti, like most of the media, is parasitical scum.

STUPID parasitical scum.

There's absolutely no logical rationale behind the popular notion that General Tom Brady's time is short.

A mutant degenerate Sociopath named Brett Favre just slung 33 TD's with only 7 Interceptions in 2009, at the age of 40.

Tom Brady is one THOUSAND times more dedicated to conditioning...and to FOOTBALL...than that excrement.

And for those scoring at home, he's 33.

***

If he merely MATCHES Favre's longevity, that's 7 MORE YEARS OF EXCELLENCE.

This ain't complicated, people.

Well, he did say he doesn't see himself coaching 25 years from now (which would make him about as old as JoePa is now).

I can live with that.

Another 24 years, then. :D

Tony Mazzerotti is a sophomoric jerk. He has zero insight nor insider information with the New England Patriots. Mazzerotti's gassing is no different than what most of us do here, unlike serious football reporters.

Brady and Belichick are linked, of course, but their futures are not co-terminus.

Tom Brady's shelf-life is closer to its end that its beginning. The guy's been in the league 10 years, proved he was mortal with the lost season and came back to win the league MVP and the vote of his peers as the best in the game for his performance last year. He's got a couple of peak years left and will decline as his body ages. Will he drop off this year? Possibly. Barring major injury, though, he's a solid bet to be top five again at his position in 2011-12.

Belichick could coach for another 15 years if he talkes care of himself and he keeps the passion. Belichick is an all-out football geek who looked smarter and more into it last season as he coached up that defense of young, fast, inexperienced players into becoming a terrific unit that got better as the season progressed. He also did a very good job as GM/coach by dumping Moss/re-acquiring Branch and retooling the offense to score more points and present greater problems for his defensive brethren across the field.

Tony Mazz gets all this wrong. He should stick to baseball. He should also grow up. The weird sexist stuff that comes out of his mouth on the radio is like listening to an 8th grader and his delight in making fun of the Mayor of Boston is embarrassing. Tony Mazz works in the toy department. He could no more coach a team of men nor run for office, nor govern a major US city than the man in the moon. He should wise up and do his job, not ridicule or speculate on how others do theirs.

Never ceases to amaze me how well this guy has done, most nauseating voice and absolutely no ability to engage the listener...

But of course there is little of that anymore on Boston Sports Talk Radio, more of a focus on shock and hyperbole than on facts..
