James Sanders could be on trade block.

Are you serious?

The only good thing Merriweather does is hit hard - when he actually has a good angle on the player. Otherwise, he gambles - and loses - too much for my liking. Plus, I think he's a dolt. I'll never forget him saying he was doing his own thing out there - explaining his benching. Moron.

What Sanders lacks in talent, he makes up for in smarts. Still, he would be amongst the least physically talented of the bunch -well, except for Lockett.

However, with the speculated 120 cap - I can definitely see Sanders go, but to think you would get any value for him in a trade is pretty laughable. A fifth or sixth rounder - maybe.

Trade the Merryberry and we pick up a LEGIT draft pick. Trade Sanders and a future 3 for??? What a 2 and 4? The point here is we CLEAR CAP space and pursue a BETTER S on the market. Look what McCourty did as Rookie... I really think Brandon can be replaced w/ a better FA who can actually cover the pass. I haven't looked at FA market. I'm sure we can find a player better in coverage than Merryberry. We collct a 2 or 3 trading Merri.

As much as these "names" sound attractive, this limited preparation pre-season is NOT the time to knock 2 starter level safties out of the lineup. We've see learning curve "issues" before. One out of place safety and 7 pts go on the board.

And that differs from Meriweather how?:p

Agreed. It's ultimately a risky proposition to try and replace our starting safeties. I think we get too caught up in how many yards they gave up when the defense by design is bend-but-don't-break. And the unit did have a lot of picks last year (#1 in the league).

We're pining for Rodney Harrison of old.

I am curious to see how Meriweather performs in a contract year. We could get that little extra out of the player.

I really do hope we can trade sanders. I have never been a fan of him from day one. I admit that he has gotten better every year, but not to the point where he's anything more than average. I wonder if the Texans would cough up something for his services.

Also, I am just throwing it out there that I hope we can EXTEND merriweather. For all of his defiencies(a little ******ed and weird voice), he covers the deep end of the field extremely well and i don't see anyone in the 2012 draft with that kind of range. There is a reason why merriweather is not thrown at often 45+ yards down the field.

did u see the I keed I keed part? He could be a valuable ST blocker who knows? I am FOR signing a FA safety and collecting a pick like a 2 or 3. That we would get for Merri

Lee could crack roster as a LS if he really works at it. It would protect Lee's spot in the FUTURE years. I am soooo surprised how those small LS don't get hurt by the BIG DL-men. It is a moot point, but I would think that those small guys would get run the **** over.

There are rules to protect the ls. You can not line up directly over them. I would also suggest and this pure speculation but if you factored percentage of time on the field with number of injuries you might find that snappers get injured plenty.

Ps I highly doubt Smith will be a LS

what is wrong w/ speculation threads from reports? What else is there to talk about? The CBA crap is boring and why not post something unCBA like?

Chill pill Mo chill chill chill:cool:

Bad thread title -- you should have included the source of the speculation, in particular indicating how speculative it was.

I got it off rotoworld. The source is at bottom of passage

James Sanders - DB - Patriots

The Boston Globe suggests that Patriots S James Sanders "could garner some interest on the trade market" after the lockout.
The Pats could go forward with Brandon Meriweather, Pat Chung, Jarrad Page, and a special teamer as their safeties. Sanders, 27, is due a $2.8 million base salary. A nine-game starter last season, Sanders intercepted three passes including a pick-six and also had a forced fumble. However, Pro Football Focus graded Sanders as a poor run defender and below-average cover man. It's hard to imagine the Pats getting more than a late-round pick for him.

No chance in hell this happens. People were crying about how the team had lost all its leaders, which it had. Now, Sanders clearly emerges as one of the new leaders, makes plays and brings stability when he's in, and we wanna trade him? Stupidity. Blatant stupidity.

I like this proposed move.:):)

we look SOLID at DB and a move like this could net us that extra ST guy on the roster. Maybe a Lee Smith type I keed I keed, but hopehe could crack it

*sigh*, what the hell? Rotoworld is citing PFF now? So much for credibility; as usual, PFF is wrong, and by extension rotoworld is wrong too. Sanders is fine, and a third good safety isn't exactly a luxury in today's NFL, especially with Meriweather likely gone after this season.

Honestly, if we're going to trade a safety, I'd expect that it would be Meriweather, due to his contract. Sanders is too much of a leader on this team.

Complain to them. I've been doing it for a while.

2016 5th round pick seems like good value to me.

I do not see how rotoworld.com is a BAD SOURCE? It takes info from all over the country like newspapers journals it takes soooo much media from VARIOUS newspapers. Do not BEGRUDGE Roto b/c they used a PFF source earlier on. This article I posted came from GLOBE

PFF only graded Sanders as a poor rundefender and a below avg cover man. Globe used PFF to evaluate Sanders. PFF graded sanders as such.... NOT the BOSTON GLOBE

While BB has his own thoughts, obviously, I see nothing sensible about moving Sanders unless the team is planning to bring in a theoretical upgrade, and there aren't (m)any that will be on the market.

Globe said nothing about PFF. Rotoworld reported that snippet that they saw in the Globe article and then added PFF's opinion of Sanders after that.

I am just as qualified to break news stories as PFF is to judge quality of players, so why doesn't Rotoworld cite me when I post on Twitter that the lockout is over?

I could see getting rid of both of them. Sanders has no trade value though.

I got to thinking guys... We really can't have enough quality DB's. My position has CHANGED. Is Brandon our next Franchise Tag victim since we can't slap it on Mankins anymore?

Before you post get a piece of paper and draw a line down the middle of it. On one side write "why I should post this comment" & on the other write "why I shouldn't post this comment". When in doubt, go with the 2d option.

That'll go a long way to helping.
