On average how many UDFA's does BB bring in & how much does it cost per player?

In terms of potential dead space on the cap, here are the SBs for recent rookie UDFAs when they first signed with the team:

Hoyer: $12,500
Arrington: none
Farnham: $1,000
Fletcher: $10,000
Jenkins: $10,000
Brown: $12,500
Guyton: $12,000

Until and unless they make the team, the most they count against the cap is the amount of the signing bonus.

As to the how many, it depends on how many players the Pats have already signed plus the number of unassigned draft picks. The closer that number is to 80, the fewer UDFAs. Typically the Pats will sign between 10 and 20 UDFAs with 12 to 15 the most common number. It may increase this year if training camp rosters increase from 80 to 90, but who knows at this point.

FWIW, right now they have 74 players signed/drafted awaiting contracts, not counting unsigned FAs.

Which means 65 signed. Assuming rosters go to 90, we should see a lot of UDFAs early, and then watch them get cut when the draftees sign. Twenty or so right away wouldn't surprise me.

This is a tough year to be a UDFA. Not a lot of face time with the coaching staff for these kids.

I guess they can hope some of the draftees have been stuffing their faces with greasy burgers and put on a lot of flabby pounds.
