When FA starts, will somone make RFA BJGE an offer?

RFA BJGE got a 2nd round tender offer from the Patriots.

We then drafted 2 running backs (Vereen & Ridley) in the 2nd and 3rd
round.

We also have Woodhead under contract.

Do you think anyone will give BJGE a offer?


My feeling is that if he get's an offer, he will be gone.
Belechick loves to stockpile draft picks, and even if we keep BJGE
this year, he will probably be gone in 2012.

I'd be pretty surprised if someone made an offer given his second round tender, but I guess stranger things have happened. If an offer is made, though, then I think it's pretty much a foregone conclusion that he's gone.

I think BB would rather see if the guys he drafted are capable of grasping our offense before hand. Our RB's are usually asked to do quite a bit more than put their head down and run really fast. I don't see BJGE leaving until next season at the earliest.

Any team is an injury away from going after help. I think a second round tender is right on the money. No fumbles and over a 1000 yards. If the new kids look good and we have Faulk,Kettani and Clayton a phone call away.

I don't think he's going to leave. He would be wise not to, because he and this OL work really great together. They have great chemistry. Mankins has said that BJGE makes the line want to block harder.

I never heard Mankins say anything like that about previous runners.

I think the simple answer is no, nobody is likely make him an offer. Offers to RFAs are rare, and as productive a player as Green-Elllis is, a slow, workmanlike RB is just not considered a scarce and valuable commodity in this league.

To place a value on the 2nd round pick, consider that in this past draft Shane Vereen and Mikel LeShoure were taken toward the end of the 2nd. They should expect to be paid at an annual rate around 60% of BJGE's tender level.

Which is more attractive, your choice of Vereen and LeShoure or Green-Ellis for a lot more money?

Normally an RFA is free to negotiate with any other team (up to a certain date - usually some time in June - and who knows how limited that may be this time around...7 days or less?). If he signs an offer sheet with the other team then his former team usually has a week to match the offer or take the draft compensation assigned via his tender. Nobody can just claim him, they have to reach an agreement with him and put it in writing. Guys will usually agree because it's on a long term deal and not the one year deal they'd otherwise be looking at, and if their old team wanted them they'd have made their own offer or will match the offer sheet he's just signed...

It's pretty unlikely with all the FA who will be hitting the market and their own rookies to sign that any team will be friggin around with tendering a RFA because they would have to wait some period of time to find out if they had just wasted their time essentially negotiating a long term deal between him and his old team... Same reason the players are balking at agreeing to multiple transition tenders (or right of first refusal as they're calling it) the owners reportedly requested for some veterans. The idea that a team has to meet with the player and hammer out a deal only to have someone else match it probably won't fly given the time frame to camp. Unless the old poison pills come into play, you could be losing out on other FA while waiting for a decision on the "restricted" player you just invested time and tied up your money in...only to lose out on that player too.

Anything's possible. This year, MUCH more so than others, proven NFL veterans are going to be in more demand than rookies who haven't had the benefit of a full pre-season.

A team that has a need - especially a division rival - might be willing to expend a draft pick to make themsleves stronger and the Pats weaker, even if only for this season.

It also remains to be seen whether poison pill clauses will be outlawed in the new CBA -though it seems like GMs have kept that in check in recent seasons.

He doesn't have to say eff u; he simply wouldn't sign the offer sheet.

I also really think we have not seen his best yet so I'd like to see him here during his next few peak years.

The rookie RB's usually have lots to learn here in regards to blocking so unless there are major injuries I expect them to be buried on the depth chart this year.

If BJGE does get a contract, the only way BB can keep him is to match the contract. I don't see that happening. Remember, any team is free to offer BJGE a long term deal.

But he isnt going to pass up a signing bonus and long term deal because the OL gives him complements, or even if he thinks its the best team for his skills.
There would be a ton of money at stake if that happened, and I'm sure he would feel if staying with this team is what he is best suited for then this team ought to match.

Are you saying you hope another team signs him so either we have to pay more or lose him? In other words, you would wish him a fat contract somewhere else so he can do well, at the expense of the Patriots? I may have misunderstood you, but if thats your point I would not want that at all.

I love this kid, hopefully BB keeps him for a long time. He's the anti Maroney, physical, north/south RB who's a bruiser for his size.
