You forgot the Islanders in NY.

I could have put the Islander, Devils and Nets into the NY area as a lot of them do root for one of these teams but I decided to leave the NJ teams as that and since I actually liked the 80-83 Islanders I didn't want to credit NYC with them.

Although not the same top end talent as those Islanders teams and in particular Bossey and Trottier the Bruins in many ways remind me of them. Hopefully they emulate them in one more way!

I love how when a player is touched he acts as if he were shot or stabbed by a knife. It is sooo embarrassing. I thought pro-athletes had impeccable balance, but in soccer Acting is a necessity if I wanna watch brokeback Mountain. I can just turn on a soccer match. I have seen this movie only by watching soccer like the last World Cup.

Being in my late 60's, I'm enjoying every season.....Having witnessed the B's Stanley Cup win with ORR & Co was a great moment....then seeing the Patriots take the Lombardi not once, but 3 times was unbelievable.....The Sox finally lifting the curse and winning the WS was IMMENSE !!

Seeing the B's win it again, and within just a few years of all the other major Boston sports franchises is a ONCE IN A LIFETIME experience...

I know I'm late to the party - and hope I'll be excused if this was already told in the lengthy Bruins Game 7 thread - but I pulled this out of my memory bank (details are a little fuzzy):

Gretsky's singing autographs at some event in the Midwest shortly after his retirement. A guy walks up to him and says, "So, how does it feel to be the second greatest hockey player that ever lived?"

Gretsky looks at the guy and says, "You must be from Boston."

I love that story.

Had an absolute blast watching the B's win the Cup again after all these years. One of the best memories of my childhood was when my Dad took me to a Bruins/ Canadiens game up at the old Montreal Forum in 1974 when I was 11. I remembered the B's came back from being down 4-1 to tie it 4-4. And I just recently found the Globe article (Dec 5, 1974) about that game, which I'm now framing and giving to my dad for Father's Day (belated - I'm flying to NH in a week w/ the family to spend time with my parents. Any Bruins shirts left?)

Yes, Boston sports is a special thing.

Yes, Boston sports is a special thing.

Epic battles between the B's and Les Habs. The Canadians were high flying and wide open while the Bruins loved to check and would beat the pulp out of you. IIRC, the Garden was even a smaller rink which was conducive to Bostons style.

The Montreal Canadians were like the Yankees of the NHL and their fans just as obnoxious. Ken Dryden gave the Bruins fits.

One of my favorite memories was the 1988 PlayOffs against the Canadians, when we FINALLY beat those @#$%& after losing 427 consecutive PlayOff series to them!! We actually won in 5 games, but I swear to GOD it felt like a 7 game series!! Who remembers that series??

It was so HUGE to beat those bastards...And of course this was just a couple years after the Patriots finally VANQUISHED ~ and SQUISHED!! ~ the FISH!! :rocker:

Nice thoughts, OTG. It all started with me with the 'squish the fish' season in the mid-80's. First WC team to win all 3 on the road and go to the SB!! Loved the underdog role. It was quite unfortunate that they had the play the CHI Bears that year though...

That was the season where they beat the Raiders in Oakland and Pat Sullivan got punched by Matt Millen. IIRC, Craig James was huge in that game.

Ditka was a Ahole to let Perry pound it in at the goal line, but to this day Ditka is vilified for not letting Payton score a TD in the SB.

Yeah, that Road Trip was AMAZING. We pushed the JETS' faces in for them, we slapped around Ben Dreith's favorite team, and then we SQUISHED THE FISH!!! :rocker:
