The Red Sox are still the black sheep in my book. With how much money is dumped into that team they should have at least 5 championships.

I just don't understand the hatred for the other sports teams in Boston. I frequent message boards for the other three teams, and the only place I see such hatred for the other three teams is on this board. It's truly bizarre. I mean, Christ, you can't go to a Celtics game and not see a Patriot player. Bellichick was at the Bruins games. Watch Red Sox postgame, and David Ortiz is wearing Bruins gear. I don't understand how this cohesion doesn't transfer to some fans.

As, I said I'm a fan of all four teams with the Patriots probably being my favorite, but the fact of the matter is is that the Patriots are the black sheep of this town right now. Entitled or not, since 2004, the Patriots have brought this town more heartbreak than all the other teams combined. 2006 AFCCG, 2007, 2010 against the Jets. Those are all some of the worst losses any team can ever experience.

**** em...**** all of em!!!! I'll trade that stanley cup in for a lombardi in a heartbeat. My precioussssss.....

In all seriousness...you can't really call the Patriots the black sheep imo...even if they haven't won the superbowl they have been one of the best teams in the league and probably have more wins over that time period than anybody. A 4th title is on the horizon....

It's stupid non-stories like Florio's and the commercially-driven ignoring of the Patriots by the Globe (I wouldn't have believed it until I started reading the paper) that lead to resentment.

Well done, Bruins! Enjoy the celebration, Boston!

Florio cannot comprehend that none of this is about rivalry, it is about having some very good teams, very good coaching and lots of championships.. if he raises this, he will never understand.

It's been 7 long years :( .

The story doesn't bother me. I think the main point, even with Florio, is that Boston/NE sports fans have had it so good that the Patriots -- the PATRIOTS! -- now have the longest title drought. It's a fact that only resonates because the Patriots are still the model of excellence in perception and reality.

My nomination for moronic post of the year (so far).:bricks:

That's exactly it- it's just tongue in cheek humor. Nothing serious.

"With the Bruins winning their first Stanley Cup since 1972, every major-league team from Boston has won a championship in the last seven years"

If the Patriots win the Lombardi this year....every major franchise will have won a championship within how many years?

What's the record? Does Boston hold it with 7 years?

Just curious :D

They don't get what real heartbreak is...and they live in the moment so it's always what have you done for me lately (as in this year).

As for Florio, his choice was to run with the 7 in a decade angle or find a way to make it sound like a bad thing...;)

Short of GB there probably isn't another sports town that wouldn't trade places with us...

To paraphrase Kraft...Today we are all "black" sheep, and frankly it doesn't get any better than that...

Macy's ran the same ad in the Globe today they ran in the Miami Herald Monday morning, only this time it wasn't a cruel joke...

I thought the article was dripping with irony and humor.

Yep, a team that has been heralded as one of the greatest of all time in its sport under a HOF HC and and with a HOF QB actually qualifies as the "black sheep" of a city that has won more championships than it has parade venues in the last few years. Enjoy, people! We won't see times like these again.

...

The heartbreaks of the 06, 07 and 10 seasons come with the turf of being around greatness consistently; you don't win every time you get a shot because there are other good teams that have the same goals as you do...and sometimes luck (good or bad, of which the Pats have experienced both) plays a role.

You'd prefer maybe the heartbreak of four losing trips to the World Series in 85 years??? I'll take three close calls in five years myself.

Bruins 1 championship since 1973 38 years
Celtics 1 championship since 1987 24 years
Red Sox 2 championships since 1919 91 years

Patriots 3 championships since 2001 10 years

It took the other teams a combined 153 years and counting to top what the Patriots did in a decade.

Well said, but I think even Florio can just be having fun once in a while.

Gotta give Gresh and Zo their due this AM. Minutes long open of highlights and comments set to the backdrop of the overture from Rocky... Zo saying how special this one is and equating it to what happened less than a decade ago. Recalling how Bill called Tommy up to his room and sat him down and told him that nothing would ever be the same in his life and going forward it would be all about how you handle that.

No more strolls around Boston and dining out in annonimity or stopping at the local Dunkin' for your morning coffee...because you shocked the world and beat the best and you did it the right way...with humility and determination and teamwork. And a generation of fans will forever embrace you (well all but the usual knuckleheads) not just because you won but because of the journey and how you won.

And speaking of knuckleheads...

And today's winner for the "There are lies, damned lies and then there are 'statistics'" prize goes to............

Or, you could say that the Celtics went to the NBA finals seven times and won them five times in the 14 seasons between 1973 and 1986, and the Patriots have not yet accomplished that in their 50 year history!

Or you could say that in the 50 years the Patriots have been in existence, the Bruins have gone to the Stanley Cup Finals eight times, vs. the Pats six, and won three times. Or that the Patriots have a long way to go before then can claim, like the bruins, that they have gone to the League Championship game 18 times and won it six times.

Just sayin'. :)

PS: As for the Red Sox, well, damn the Bambino anyway!

Or you could say the Pats have 3 titles in the last ten years, calling them black sheep is silly (and I know that Florio wasn't serious) when the other teams most current titles are decades away from their last, in the Bruins case 38 years, in the Celtics 24.

As for the Red Sox, well who the hell cares.

I don't know; once they shave those playoff beards they'll go back to being anonymous to most New Englanders. :D
