In a break with tradition on the main forum, here is a thread for discussion leading up to, during, and after this huge Stanley Cup Finals game.

With a win the Bruins can become the 4th major sports team in NE, to win a championship during the past 10 years, since the Patriots started this decade of NE sports championships. So this makes this game very special.

I will admit that I am a casual hockey fan. I can't seem to watch a game from start to finish but I'm going to try tonight. I don't know all the rules. I do know that a puck is not a "black thing" as some in my office have stated.:D

So enjoy the game, and lets hope for a Bruins victory.

Kid from UK supporting the the Red Wings and Patriots? What's your NBA,soccer,MLB teams? Lakers,Barca,Yankees?

I've been a pro sports fan of everything Boston/New England since I was a kid, but I can honestly say it was Bruins before everything. My grandfather was from Canada and having grown up near Montreal he was anti-Canadiens. His first love was the Maple Leafs, but became Bruins by default. As a kid I can remember watching the Cup Finals in '77 & '78 with him. If they leave everything on the ice tonight and still lose, I'll be okay. If they win, it will mean more to me than any of the other championships of the Celtics, Red Sox, and yes, the Patriots. Go B's.

Wouldn't it be great if I had the power to change other screw ups in my life with a "mod edit".

My favorite thing about golf is taking a Mulligan.

Playoff hockey, when you have a rooting interest....best sporting event out there. The Bs need to do alot more hitting than they did in game 5.....and get on the board first....simple!

At least somebody is winning something.Zing!

Posted this on another thread in the hockey section: Mike Lombardi re-tweeted someone else who mentioned that, if the Bruins win, the Patriots will have the longest championship drought among Boston's/NE's four major sports. Wish I'd thought of that. Still think their sustained success makes them the model among pro sports teams, here and elsewhere. Maybe this year we'll get Bruins, Red Sox and Patriots. (We are so spoiled ... but we deserve it!)

I also put myself in the casual hockey fan category these days. As a kid in the Bobby Orr era I got into hockey big time, with all the Rally equipment and enjoying some status as a mighty fine street hockey goalie. I was 10 when the Bs won in '72 and I remember exactly where I was when I watched the finale.

What this Bruins team has done has been exciting to see, and I love the way they play the game. I feel especially happy for the long-time fans who have stuck with them through all the "hockey krishna" mockery. Tonight is their Super Bowl.

I have a strong feeling that many people on this board cherry picked the Patriots as "their" team in 2001 or 1996 or even 2007 when Randy Moss and Brady got them a ton of fantasy football points. Their other "teams" are probably all the best teams from each sport - they probably like Van in hockey because of Thelma and Louise :D.
As for the Bruins tonighT (cap T in honor of Claude), it's a tough call. They've played it pretty close to the vest in three games in Van and they've been on the wrong end of one goal games each time. They've had their chances in those three AND they've shut down Van's #1 line. But they still lost. Does Claude throw caution into the wind and NOT worry about his defensive pairings against that #1 Van line, or does he still play that "I'm going to try to win a 1-0 or 2-1 game style."
It would be nice to Bergeron provide some offense. He's had a tough series offensively and he's one of their key guys. Seems easy to say, but the Bruins need another outstanding performance from Tim Thomas (Conn Smythe winner no doubt), they need to keep that #1 Van line bottled up, and HIT, HIT, HIT, HIT...if they can get those three things, they have a great chance of dancing with Lord Stanley tonighT around 11 PM......LETS GO BRUINS!

Maybe I'm missing something, but how the heck did the series split into tight 1-goal games in Vancouver, and blowouts in Boston?

I don't agree that "many" on this board jumped on the Patriots bandwagon. I will say a few have. But many, like me, have been long time Patriots fans. I go back to 1970 and there are many here that go back even further.

You can't help when you were born and quite a few younger fans would be Patriots regardless of their sucess overthe past 10 years. They don't have the prospective that older fans do, but that is not their fault. Then there are people who have been fans for 20 years or more who lack prospective.

But being a casual Bruins fan, I will admit that I have a bit of "frontrunner" interest in this team.

Frankly, the Bruins have been the better team through 80% of this series. The games in Boston have not been competitive. Personally I think Claude's style is better suited to keep games tight on the road than is Vigneault's/Van's. Plus Luongo's been a sieve in Boston. Hopefully the Bruins get a bunch of pucks at the net tonight - WITH TRAFFIC IN FRONT - and they can get an early goal...LETS GO BRUINS!!!!!!

Very good

Red Wings was because I have a friend in Detroit, and when I was younger my brother bought me a Red Wings top when he went over!

Patriots was because of a friends family living in Boston, and would always ask how the Pats were doing, so I ended up following their results, and seeing as they were doing pretty well, I become a fan ;)

As for NBA/MLB, no real team, but also see how Pistons/Tigers and Celtics/Red Sox are doing! And I am a Liverpool fan (sig not give it away?) so Red Sox are linked there aswell!

I never understood and will never understand how someone can not be a fan of their hometown team even if they're terrible. It's like being a trader. That would be like if we Pats fans "became" Dallas fans in the early 90s when the Pats were awful. Or if we "became" SF fans in the early 80s.
I think we all know "that kid" in high school who liked non-Boston teams. I had one, actually a good friend, who liked Detroit in basketball, Hartford in hockey, Toronto in baseball, and Oakland/LA Raiders in football.

Keyser, what is going on in your sig? I haven't seen any games, just some highlights, and why is the Canucks player just standing there?
