“I'm going to be back,†Seau said. “I don't know which helmet I'll wear, but I'm definitely going to be back.â€

I think he'll be back here if the Pats want him. He was doing well in the system and Rodney will convince him. The only thing to work against it is his family is out west.

I'd like to see Jr. come back to the Pats next year and you'd think the Pats would want him back. Family considerations aside, it's a good fit for him and he proved that he's still got something left in the tank.

More e-mails to Junior now, please!!!

Seau was terrific here. With no other players available experienced as a Pats 3-4 ILB, it makes perfect sense.

He has shown he can be very effective as a two-down ILB, surprisingly effective, given his previous 17 or so years as a free-ranging playmaker. He has played the run as well as any Pats ILB since Ted Johnson's better days - not that there have been many to challenge that.

The Patriots CLEARLY need some youth and speed at LB, but there is a role for Seau.

Hopefully, the Patriots linebacker corps will look something like this next year:

OLB: Vrabel, Colvin, FA, TBC, rookie
ILB: Bruschi, Seau, rookie/FA, ST guys (Davis, Izzo, Alexander)

They tend to carry ~10-11 LB's, including 3-4 ST specialists. They are best when there are six 'starting' types. But Seau should be one of the top 4-5 LB's in the rotation.

I think the fact that he was able to play an important role here will be a draw. Remember, before we called this season nobody wanted him. If he's recovering well I wouldn't be surprised to see them extend a player like him to use up some cap before the season is done. He'd be worth the $1M or so we paid him this year in advance even if he only served in a more limited role next season. And if they handed him some bonus money now and he didn't work out as well in 2007 that would be OK too because he earned his contract and then some in the first 2/3rds of this season.

His (rumored) fight with Pepper Johnson may not help our chances.

Re: Jr Seau will be back next year

Jr. will not be back. The reason: Because we will win the Super Bowl this year and he will have his ring! GO PATS!

BB and Comp. are professionals, and they aren't going to let a guy like Seau go because of a spat with one of the coaches. If he doesnt return, it's simply because they don't want him, or merely because he regresses during the off season. However, I dont see any of that happening. Seau is one of the greatest of all-time and I would be so grateful just to get one more chance at watching him play in a Pats uni.

:rocker: I didn't see this post earlier when I when I replied to "BrianPat's" post. So on the serious side, Junior is a real "ALL HEART" guy. Honor is big with hime, team game is huge with him, above all Having Class is his style. If the PATS ask him to stay he will. Reason: Because when you have class and honor you keep your end of the deals you make. Junior will play if we need him regardless of the NEW SHINY RING he will have on at the season's end. He is a soldier! On that note: THANKS JUNIOR FOR GIVING US YOUR ALL... SWEAT, EXPERIENCE, and literally BLOOD and BONE! You are a true PATRIOT! GO PATS!!!!!!!

Is anyone else reading between the lines that he may not want to come back to New England? Not that he should feel obligated or compelled to come back to the Patriots but usually I would expect a player to say that they hope or intend to remain with their team and if it doesn't work out, then they explore other options.
Not me, I read it as he doesn't know what team he'll play for. He has no contract for next year. And until/unless the Patriots offer him one, he's looking for a team - hopefully that's the Patriots. Despite the supposed run in with Pepper, there are no indications that either party was unhappy with Seau being in New England.

I bet he would love to come back here...first we have to say we want him and then...he may not commit very fast because once he does, he would need to be here for the off season program.

I hope he comes back to us. He was having a great year until the injury.

espn's story

idk maybe, says he's injury prone, hasnt played 16 games in a season since '01

but if the pats resign him, it will help us dramatically, while drafting a lb will still be one of the main priorities in the offseason, we wont have to stick him out so soon(rookie lb), and give him time to develop..and we wont have to move vrabel inside...

I agree that a high draft choice @ LB can then be brought along slowly, if Jr comes back.

I disagree with you about Vrabel.

He is the NEXT Pat's "Mike man" middle LB and caller of the Defense. He has size, blitzing ability, and most of all the mind to be a "Coach on the Field". EXACTLY what Bill Belichick wants for his Defense; to play "smart" football.
