But BB was quoted in GQ as saying he wouldn't be Marv Levy either. I think he plans to retire but even he does know when. It was clear from his quote in USA Today that he still enjoys what he does. Let's hope he stays for a long time to come. It's possible the next Patriots coach might also be named Belichick -- Brian Belichick. :)
SHHH! I'm in my happy place. LA-LA-LA I can't hear you.

Don't go bringing reality into my little world!

"Borges says he is hearing that the Texans will try to lure him down there and that he might be interested in the job."

Why on earth would Belichick have the slightest interest in going to Houston?

He's not from there. He's never spent any real time there. The owner is a question mark. The franchise has no identity and is at risk (within five years) of moving if things don't change. It's a crappy city to live in.

I can't fathom that he goes to Houston.

One thing I can imagine, if he becomes the NFL coach with the most SB titles, is him 'retiring' from the pros to coach at Navy. That's the one college job I can see him wanting, with the family tradition, the lack of player discipline issues, and the vastly reduced need to really do serious recruiting.

Well to get into Marv Levy territroy he would have go another 20 years. He will do it as long as he is enjoying it, at least till Brady retires I would think. I don't see him going to another franchise, he grew up in this area and is comfortable with the ownership and I think he realizes how important that is.

Some people get lucky and do what they are born to do. BB is in that very small group of people.I'm not saying that it's not hard work or can be frustrating at times, it is.

But here in NE, BB has total control and a working relationship with Bob Kraft that seems to be ideal for him. Why would he want to give that up considering his other experiences in Cleve and with the Jest?

I think BB will be here for a very long time. As long as his health stays good and his relationship with the Krafts stays the way it is.

There is nobody who knows when he is done but Belichick himself. Anyone else who starts talking, for example of FSNE. Thats just pure speculation.

From what I was told. He already sigend a deal with the Krafts about a year or so ago. Maybe it was the off season. It was for an undisclsoed amount of money and time. The deal was not widely publicised like everything else BB. Even if it is not the case BB is very loyal. He left Parcells's because he did not like BP's integrity and lack of loyalty. He has a great relationship with the Krafts.

I didn't vote because I think he'll coach for more than any of the choices listed. I think he loves what he's doing and he would feel empty without the thrill of coaching a football team.

Ditto. Read the article about how much he loves coaching and how every day is a new challenge.

He will be "HC of the NEP" for at least five more years.

Why? I have intentionally not kept up on Belichick's marriage/divorce issues since I think it's none of my darn business, but I'm assuming that finances are not unimportant to him as a result. Also, I don't think he'd enjoy sitting in a studio or announcer booth every week. I also don't see him coaching anywhere else in the NFL, since he's got his system and people in place in New England, where he'll have the greatest shot at his fourth SB Ring as a Head Coach, and maybe one more for his thumb.

The above is a long way of saying that the guy is going to want to make some money over the next few years, that coaching is his best way of doing that and that, at the same time, he's enough of a student of the Game's history to want to amass the credentials that will have him forever mentioned in the same breath as Lombardi, Halas and Brown when the discussion turns to the greatest coaches in NFL history.

If he was gone after this year he would have thrown a boat load of money at Branch to try to win it all this year. Every thing he has done is set up for the long run.

very good point.

I don't see that as a valid reason by iteslf to think he'll stay. He's too professional and disciplined to do anything that's not in the best interests of the etam long term. Also, he will probably hand-pick his replacement and will want to leave the best possible situation for them and for his assistants who stay.

I don't see any reason that he'd quit. If he does, though, forget Weis - NEM for Head Coach.
Josh McDaniels is clearly positioned to take over the team, since it is his offense which has been driving their success this season :)

In the words of Terrell Owens, he could well have 75 million reasons for wanting to go to Houston. Houston is like the Redskins, a rich team who is desperate for success. I could see BB being the first 15M/year coach (they are talking about Cowher getting in the neighborhood of 10M a year if he leaves Pittsburgh). I would be surprised if Kraft didn't step up and come close to that money if the possibility was real, but you never know.

He wants to go to the Texans to make Peyton his b!tch twice a year :D

I agree with alot of the responses here that he will probably coach in excess of any of the choices in the poll. My wild guess would be 8-10 years and then become a GM. All the 2006 offseason (and early season moves) have been to set up a packed draft next year, to extend Koppen, (I believe they will) move bonus salary on Brady and Seymour to this year and off of future years. None of that indicates any slowing down - only reloading.

The only other team I could see BB coaching would be the Giants.

Agreed about the Giants. I could also see him in a few Eastern (not far from Nantucket/Wesleyan)

Pittsburgh - he respects the Rooney family

Philadelphia - he respects Jeffrey Lurie

Both of those owners have football management (cap/player type/free hand to the HC-GM) styles similar to Kraft's.

Interestingly, the place I could most see him in is Baltimore (he's an Annapolis native with still strong ties to the Academy and the area) - although I'm not sure what he thinks of the new owner Steve Bisciotti (I definitely know he wouldn't think of working for Bisciotti's predecessor ever again!).

Terrible News: If Belichick leaves. :(

Even Worse News: Clive Rush is ready to electrify Patriot Nation one more time as head coach. :bricks:

Why would one leave when the team is set up for the next 5 plus years. I agree with you.

Good drafts and the defense could be the top in the nfl. I think the offense needs to improve their opening drive productivity and they will once again become front runners.

He'll coach this team until he's ready to quit football for good and then he won't be in and out like Parcells.

Belichick is a lifer and is in a situation where he is the #1 guy, period. The Krafts will never fire him and there will never been any public outcry to get rid of him in this or the next decade.

****erson was just trying to spark the public's interest so he can turn around and write a few tinfoil hat columns about Belichick bailing to go God knows where next.
