Saw a mention by Mike Silver on twitter last evening that Tom Martinez was ailing. Apparently he has since announced on facebook that he has a month to live due to complications of diabetes...

Tom Martinez, Tom Brady's quarterback mentor and a San Mateo County coaching icon, took to Facebook to announce doctors have told him that he has no more than a month to live. He's suffered from complications brought about by diabetes for a number of years. But as recently as last Sunday, Martinez gave a tutorial session to Brady, a former Serra High star and reigning NFL MVP for New England.

Really sad news :(

My thoughts and prayers go out to him.

Brady's mentor given 1 month to live

According to PFT

May he find peace. My thoughts and prayers to those who know him.

I know this comment is going to generate some controversy but here goes:

There is a black market for donated organs for $, especially in Japan where the rich have gotten organs from Chinese executed prisoners.

I think Brady should give some $ to Martinez so he can fly over there and do whatever it takes to get the heart/kidney transplant he needs.

Martinez sounds like a good man. He is certainly responsible for a large part
of Tom's success.

Sorry about the repost. I did a quick glance and didn't see it on the front page.

Mods, please merge.

That's very sad news. My thoughts are with him and his family.

Wherever do we get some of you from...

Mods, could we again merge this all with Ian's more detailed thread that includes some incredible quotes from Tom about his hope that those whose lives he touched will pass on to others some of the life lessons he taught them. As well as a quote from Tom Sr. on what he meant to the entire Brady family.

“We have received some bad news that I wanted to share with all of you. I have been given a week to a month to live, depending on my body’s response to medication. I want to thank you for the relationship that we shared and the friendships that allowed me to have a very successful career. As much as I would like to talk to you each in person, that is not feasible so please respect my family’s need for some privacy now. If the number of lives that I’ve been involved with are in the thousands, then it isn’t possible to talk to each and every one of you. I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to teach and coach you all and I ask that you take one or two of my life lessons and pass them on to your family and friends and that will keep me alive forever. With much love and appreciation, I wish all of you a very successful and fulfilled life. TM.”

MY GOODNESS...:(

terrible news and has this guy been w/ brady since HS/college??? was he interviewed in the brady 6... i think he was?

my best wishes to his family and friends you will be missed

Martinez has coached him privately since he was 15. Also coached his sisters in softball. Peter King just tweeted that he has talked to a "very emotional" Tom Brady who is really struggling with Martinez illness. He will have more on the situation in MMQB.

Very sad news.

Great teachers are some of the best and most valuable people among us.
