Gary Guyton Pats most underrated player

Didn't realise he had 63 tackles last season! Thought it would be far less!

I think he is underrated! He is a superstar, a player teams have to scheme against, but he is a good player!

Guyton is the kind of player that you see make a big noticable play about ONCE or TWICE a game and then fades away during the rest of the game like you forgot he is on the team.

Sometimes that play makes a difference in the final score though.

I think Guyton is rated about where he should be; a spot starter who can get pushed around in the run game, is pretty good in coverage and has a knack for making a big play every now and again.

If you ask me, the underrated guy is Nink. He has much more athleticism and college production than NE fans give him credit for, was OK in his first year starting and is more than on track with comparable converts like Vrabel and Colvin.

Yet people seem to want him permanently riveted to the bench. :confused2:

The only thing i remember from guyton last year was that INT return and a couple of painful missed tackles. Didn't Fletcher take his position by the end of the year?

That was more a function of Spikes' suspension than any reflection on Guyton.

What about James Sanders? Ended the Colts comeback and was the nail in the coffin against Pittsburgh.

I like Sanders, smart player, but didn't he miss ALOT of tackles last season??

I think DF could turn out to be a very dependable player in the rotation at ILB! Not bad for another UDFA!

I think Fletcher will ultimately be a plus player, moving beyond "dependable" into "depended upon". :rocker:

Or that...

I do remeber seeing him miss one pretty badly. Unless my eyes were lying to me, he wasn't a bad tackler in 2010.

Sanders was solid all year imo...can't remember anything very negative about him. Only a few huge plays he made.

According to a source Reiss referred to on ESPN, Sanders leads the team in broken tackles.

FO:

S James Sanders – 7

S Patrick Chung -- 5

LB Gary Guyton – 4

S Brandon Meriwerather – 4

CB Kyle Arrington – 4

But Meri is on that list, and he is a probowl safety and can't do anything wrong...

not to mention our QUICKEST LB easily:cool:

It's a team game so "rating" players is a bit suspect. However, Guyton is fast and has flaws, but he hung in there as an UDFA until the Pats acquired and shifted into the perfect ILB rotation, allowing Guyton to maximize his skills.

Yes, he has some versatility, but he's much better in his current role with Spikes playing the big thumper and Mayo playing Superman.

Just another perfect Patriot football fit.
